This role will focus on microfabricated, photonically integrated surface trap research, and the data we generate will directly inform the designs of our next-generation systems. In addition to being an experienced trapped-ion system experimentalist, you should have experience in technical leadership of teams of scientists and engineers.\nAll applicants for placement in safety-sensitive positions will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug test.\nKey Responsibilities:\nBuild, operate, and maintain trapped ion systems and related support infrastructure that employee both free-space optics and integrated photonics for light delivery.\nLead, develop, and work closely with a team to design, develop, verify, and deploy methods and technologies pushing the frontier of ion-based quantum computers using integrated photonics. \nHelp build an ion-trapping lab from the ground up\nMentor earlier career scientists and engineers\nCommunicate results both internally and externally through documentation, publications, and presentations\nTravel expectations of roughly 10%, dependent on business needs.\nYOU MUST HAVE:\nPh.D. completed prior to starting\nMinimum 7+ years of experience (PhD inclusive) in experimental atomic physics \nMinimum 4 years experimental experience (degree inclusive) with trapped-ion systems\nDue to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status\nDue to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.\nWE VALUE:\nPhD in Physics or related field preferred\nExperience building and leading research projects\nExcellent written and oral communication skills, with a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals related to trapped-ion systems\nExperience programming control systems for data collection and analysis \nA history of highly impactful technical achievements\nExperience with integrated photonic systems\nStrong collaboration skills, including across disciplines \nExperience performing simulation and modeling to inform experiments and/or data analysis\nExperience with cryogenic and ultra-high vacuum
