We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Lead Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Broomfield, CO. This role will provide manufacturing engineering leadership for a complex hardware program, integrating manufacturing efforts across multiple subsystems and ensuring the program progresses from development through production with a focus on manufacturability, quality, schedule, cost, and production readiness.
The Lead Manufacturing Engineer will serve as the primary manufacturing engineering interface for the program, coordinating with subsystem engineering teams, systems engineering, supply chain, quality, production, technicians, and program leadership. This individual will establish and drive manufacturing readiness activities across the full program, identify and mitigate manufacturing risks, and ensure subsystem efforts are aligned with overall program requirements and production objectives. The ideal candidate is comfortable working at both the systems level and deep within individual manufacturing challenges and can translate complex technical requirements into executable manufacturing processes.
All applicants for placement in safety-sensitive positions will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug test.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the lead manufacturing engineering interface for an entire hardware program, integrating manufacturing activities and requirements across multiple subsystems and functional teams.
- Establish and drive the program's manufacturing readiness strategy, including manufacturing requirements, producibility assessments, process development, validation, production readiness, and transition from development into production.
- Partner with subsystem engineering leads to ensure designs, processes, materials, tooling, documentation, inspection methods, and production requirements are aligned with overall program objectives.
- Lead cross-functional resolution of manufacturing, integration, quality, and production issues, utilizing structured root cause analysis, corrective action, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate manufacturing risks across the program, including technical, supply chain, operational, quality, cost, and schedule risks.
- Review designs and subsystem architectures for manufacturability, assembly, test, inspection, reliability, cost, and scalability, and lead producibility improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing processes, work instructions, production documentation, inspection plans, process controls, and operator training materials.
- Lead the development and implementation of tooling, fixtures, assembly aids, test equipment, and other production infrastructure required to support repeatable and scalable manufacturing.
- Coordinate manufacturing engineering activities supporting prototype builds, pilot builds, technology transfer, production ramp, and ongoing production.
- Establish and monitor key manufacturing metrics, including yield, cycle time, first-pass yield, defects, rework, capacity, and process capability, and drive improvements based on data.
- Partner with Supply Chain and Strategic Sourcing to establish manufacturing requirements, support supplier selection and qualification, and address supplier-related technical and production risks.
- Work closely with Quality Engineering to establish appropriate inspection, acceptance, process control, and nonconformance resolution strategies.
- Support production planning and scheduling by identifying manufacturing constraints, capacity requirements, long-lead manufacturing activities, and resource needs.
- Coordinate and integrate manufacturing engineering deliverables across subsystem teams to ensure program-level alignment, dependencies, and execution.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to manufacturing engineers and serve as a subject matter expert for manufacturing engineering practices across the program.
- Support development of manufacturing layouts, production flows, workspaces, tooling strategies, and other infrastructure required to scale hardware production.
- Research and evaluate new and existing manufacturing processes, technologies, equipment, and support systems to improve the organization's ability to manufacture complex quantum computing hardware.
- Represent Manufacturing Engineering in program reviews and provide clear visibility into manufacturing readiness, risks, constraints, and required actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, Design for Manufacturing, and other structured problem-solving methodologies.
YOU MUST HAVE:
- Bachelor's degree minimum.
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering or a related engineering discipline supporting complex hardware systems, with demonstrated experience taking products from development through production.
- Minimum 3+ years CAD experience, including the ability to develop and review solid models and designs for tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing applications.
- Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status.
- Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
WE VALUE:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related field preferred
- Demonstrated experience leading manufacturing engineering activities across multiple subsystems or a complex integrated hardware program.
- Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM/DFx), process development, production readiness, and prototype-to-production transition.
- Experience leading cross-functional technical problem solving and integrating work across engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and operations teams.
- Experience leading manufacturing engineering for complex, multidisciplinary hardware programs.
- Experience coordinating and integrating subsystem manufacturing activities into a larger system or program
