We are seeking a motivated and qualifiedQuantum Computer Hardware Engineerto join our team operating and maintaining an on-premises Helios quantum computer in Singapore. This system is part of our partnership ( https://www.quantinuum.com/press-releases/singapores-national-quantum-office-and-quantinuum-forge-strategic-partnership-to-accelerate-quantum-computing) with the Singapore National Quantum Office to accelerate quantum computing. The ideal candidate will have experience building, validating, optimizing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and/or using a complex scientific apparatus or highly engineered product. Day-to-day work will involve complex problem solving; hands-on work with optical, mechanical, and electronic systems; updating, improving, and executing periodic maintenance plans; developing operations standards and documentation; and optimizing performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain an on-premises Helios quantum computer as part of a small team
Execute periodic maintenance plans for electrical, mechanical, and optical subsystems to maximize the on-premises quantum computer performance and reliability
Troubleshoot hardware subsystems as needed to return the on-premises quantum computer to service
Update and improve system maintenance and operations documentation
Collaborate with local and global teams on maintenance and troubleshooting tasks
Essential Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, or a hands-on Engineering discipline
Two or more years of laboratory research and development experience in an academic institution (degree inclusive) or industry R&D context, with hands-on experience building, validating, optimizing, maintaining, and troubleshooting a complex scientific apparatus or highly engineered product
Ability to communicate technical and non-technical content clearly in spoken and written English
Availability to travel abroad for training or other business needs and flexibility to do so at short notice
Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
We Value:
A Master's degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, or hands-on Engineering field
Experience with atomic physics systems, superconducting qubits, or other quantum computing platforms, and constituent technologies including lasers, cryogenics, ultra-high vacuum systems, laboratory hardware control, and digital and analog electronics
Proficiency in Python
Experience in instrumentation, automation, and/or test engineering
Documentation, technical writing, and presentation skills as evidenced by internal and/or external technical documentation, technical presentations, conference participation, and peer-reviewed engineering and/or scientific publications
Evidence of successful collaboration and cooperative participation in a team to deliver shared goals
International exposure and experience collaborating across locations, cultures, or time zones
Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in Singapore
