We are expanding our opto-mechanical team and seek an engineer with strong opto-mechanical design capabilities to help build high-performance beam delivery and optical subsystems.\nIn this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing free-space optical setups with a major focus on robust, stable, and tightly engineered opto-mechanical solutions. You will translate optical requirements into mechanical designs that minimize drift, ensure long-term alignment stability, and integrate seamlessly into compact quantum system architectures.\nResponsibilities\nLead the opto-mechanical design of optical modules, including mounts, sub-assemblies, mechanical interfaces, compact beam-delivery modules, and vacuum-compatible components.\nDevelop stable free-space optical layouts (beam shaping, splitting, polarization management, mode-matching, fiber coupling).\nCreate detailed mechanical drawings, tolerancing analyses, and assembly documentation.\nPerform optical and mechanical simulations (Gaussian beam propagation, thermal and vibration sensitivity, mechanical stiffness, etc.).\nOwn the assembly, alignment, and characterization of optical modules.\nWork closely with mechanical, systems, and quantum-hardware teams to ensure seamless integration into vacuum systems and ion-trap environments.\nSupport transition from R&D prototypes to manufacturable, production-ready sub-systems.\nRequirements and skills\nB.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. \nProven experience of complex systems full cycle design. \nHands-on experience designing opto-mechanical assemblies: mounts, flexures, alignment stages, beam delivery modules, precision optical packaging, and accurate mechanism. \n Hands-on experience in building, aligning and testing optical and opto-mechanical setups and assemblies.\nProficiency with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) and familiarity with mechanical tolerancing.\nAbility to generate clear documentation: assembly drawings, alignment procedures, test reports.\nFamiliarity with vibration isolation, thermal management, and long-term alignment stability design principles.\nTeam-oriented mindset and excellent communication skills.\nHighly Advantageous\nMaster in Mechanical Engineering/Electro-Optical Engineering, Physics or related field (Ph.D. a plus) \nStrong experience in free-space optical alignment, beam shaping, polarization control, and general optical lab practices.\nBackground with ultra-stable optical systems (e.g., frequency-stabilized lasers, low-drift platforms).\nUnderstanding of Gaussian optics, stability analysis, and opto-mechanical coupling.\nExperience with integrating optics into UHV chambers or compact instrumentation.\nExperience with AMO/quantum-optics systems.\nGeneral\nWe are located at the Science Park, close to the Weizmann institute of science.\nFull collaboration with the experimental & theoretical groups at the Weizmann Institute\nInterested in this role?\nGet in touch or apply now.\n Apply hereWanted: Bright minds and bold spirits\nIf you are excellent and passionate about quantum computing and its ability to make the world a better place for all -
