Position: Azure Applications ArchitectLocation: Toronto, Burlington or London, OntarioCompensation: $135K–$145K base salary – excellent pension plan and comprehensive benefits; no bonusJob Type: PermanentPosting Type: Open vacancyWorking Model: Hybrid – 3 days onsiteRole Overview We are seeking an experienced Azure Applications Architect to lead the design, development and integration of scalable, secure cloud-based applications and enterprise business systems.In this role, you’ll translate business requirements into technical architecture, oversee the delivery of complex IT initiatives, and guide the development of Azure-based solutions that automate processes and improve operational efficiency. You’ll collaborate with business stakeholders, developers and IT teams to modernize systems, strengthen integrations and ensure reliable, high-performing solutions across a diverse technology and public sector services across Canada.What You’ll Own:- Lead the architecture and design of business applications and external customer systems, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.- Translate business and technical requirements into comprehensive functional and technical solutions, including software products, customizations and integrations.- Oversee the technical implementation of medium to large-scale IT initiatives, ensuring delivery against project plans, timelines, quality standards and business objectives.- Provide architectural guidance and technical support throughout the solution lifecycle, from planning and design through development, testing and deployment.- Develop and maintain architectural documentation, technical specifications and end-to-end solution blueprints.- Design, build and maintain integrations between heterogeneous applications, APIs, databases and cloud-based platforms.- Support ERP and web developers in creating and maintaining application features and functionality on Microsoft Azure.- Identify opportunities to improve system scalability, performance, responsiveness, availability and resource utilization.- Establish and maintain architectural standards, governance practices, development methodologies and technical documentation.- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to establish integration strategies and ensure accurate, consistent information flow between systems.- Research emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve flexibility, innovation and cost effectiveness.- Guide software promotion and release processes, helping manage transitions between development and production environments.- Support cloud migration initiatives, troubleshoot technical issues and contribute to network, database and end-user support for cloud-based platforms.- Promote DevOps best practices, automation, security, reliability and continuous improvement across Azure environments.What We’re Looking For:- A university degree in programming, computer science, database development or administration, or a related discipline.- 6+ years of equivalent professional experience.- Microsoft Certified Professional certifications.- Proven experience designing and implementing scalable, secure cloud solutions using Microsoft Azure.- Strong ability to translate business requirements into technical architecture and cloud-native application designs.- Experience leading application architecture, systems integration and deployment initiatives.- Knowledge of Azure services, including App Services, Azure Functions, Service Bus, Azure SQL and Storage.- Understanding of cloud architecture patterns, including microservices, event-driven architecture and serverless computing.- Experience with cloud security, identity and access management, including Microsoft Entra ID, role-based access control (RBAC) and Zero Trust principles.- Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation using Azure DevOps, Terraform, ARM templates or Bicep.- Experience with APIs, messaging, application integration and hybrid connectivity.- Ability to develop and maintain automated solutions that simplify day-to-day operations.- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to process computer data, interpret results and ensure data accuracy.- Experience collaborating with stakeholders, developers and operations teams to deliver end-to-end technical solutions.- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, guide development teams and support architectural governance.Strong Assets:- Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect certification.- Experience guiding migrations from on-premises environments to Azure cloud solutions.- Knowledge of Azure architecture design principles and best practices.- Experience defining cloud architecture standards, security controls and compliance frameworks.- Familiarity with performance monitoring, troubleshooting, cloud cost optimization and reliability engineering.- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and complex business application integrations.- A track record of researching and implementing emerging technologies to improve system
