The company’s next-generation batteries are designed to enable greater energy density, faster charging and enhanced safety to support the transition away from legacy energy sources toward a lower carbon future.\nAbout the role: As Firmware Engineer, you are responsible for all the key functions of a battery system (monitoring, protection, communications, etc). You create algorithms for estimating state of charge, define all the states and transitions of the battery, implement all communication protocols, and ensure reliable protection functions.\nWhy this role matters: The operating performance and safety of the battery pack rely on firmware that is well designed and thoroughly validated. From critical timing control of interrupts to carefully configured peripherals to minimize power consumption, to innovative SOC estimation algorithms, every aspect of the battery pack’s performance relies on firmware.\nWhat you'll do:\nCreate a firmware platform for the battery pack with bare metal/RTOS and drivers\nDefine pinouts of microcontrollers to ensure proper allocation of peripherals\nDesign protection functions with redundancy and consistent timing\nPower sequencing and pre-charge control for inrush current limiting\nDesign SOC/SOH estimation algorithm for our unique solid-state batteries\nDefine states and transitions to cover all operating modes\nEnsure minimum operating and sleep mode power consumption\nCreate a scheme for firmware read/write protections and upgrade\nCollaborate with ODM partners to create and validate firmware protocols\nBring up hardware platforms that are built from scratch by identifying issues and working with hardware engineers to resolve them\nProvide firmware validation and regression test plans to our lab\nWhat you bring:\na relevant Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years’ experience or a relevant Master’s degree and 8+ years’ experience or relevant Ph.D. and 5+ years’ experience \n5+ years writing BMS firmware for lithium-Ion battery packs\nProficiency with TI C2000, STM32 or similar microcontroller platforms\nIn-depth understanding of timing and latency control of RTOS and Interrupts\nExperienced in designing and fine-tuning SOC/SOH estimation algorithms\nFamiliar with configuring hardware peripherals (ADC, PWM, Comparator, UART, etc) and writing drivers\nCapable of creating a firmware platform from scratch\nComfortable with working on medium to high power battery packs (>20kW)\nGood understanding of battery protection features and safety requirements such as UL2054, UL1973, UL 9540A and IEC 62133\nExperience implementing battery/power management communication protocols such as SMBus, PMBus and ModBus\nTrack record with at least two battery products through prototype bring up, validation and regulatory approval\nFluent in C for bare-metal and RTOS environments; comfortable with fixed-point math for real-time control\nNice to have:\nExperience in digital control of power converters (PFC, DC/DC, Inverters, etc)\nGood understanding of Lithium-Ion battery chemistry and characteristics\nFamiliarity with OpenBMC integration and Redfish/IPMI protocols\nExperience with code review and audits for regulatory compliance\nExperience with configurable modular multi-pack systems\nExposure to OCP power shelf communication and management standards\nExperience in a customer facing application engineering role\nONSITE: This position is required to work onsite 5 days per week to meet the minimum essential duties and requirements of this position. As an on-site R&D and manufacturing operations organization, in-person face to face interaction is essential to building authentic relationships, trust, teamwork, and collaboration.\nCompensation & Benefits: Expected salary range for this role is from $136,700 to $208,500, and a final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience, educational background and internal equity. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other benefits.\nWe are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.\nWe will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive benefits and privileges of employment. Please contact us to request an accommodation.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4745,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":9,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Energy & Utilities","Manufacturing","Energy Storage"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-01T22:41:57Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":54,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.713,"p_room":0.75,"age_days":23,"expected_fill_days":30,"reasons":["conf:3","velocity","win:late"],"computed_at":"2026-10-09T06:01:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":208500,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/quantumscape-firmware-engineer-battery-system","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/quantumscape-firmware-engineer-battery-system.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-10T00:10:01Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":159,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":4841,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-11T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":58763},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=58763"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fquantumscape-firmware-engineer-battery-system"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fquantumscape-firmware-engineer-battery-system"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fquantumscape-firmware-engineer-battery-system"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/quantumscape-firmware-engineer-battery-system\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fquantumscape-firmware-engineer-battery-system"}]}
