Who qualifies: Penultimate or final-year students completing a bachelor’s or master’sdegree
Qube Research & Technologies (QRT) is a global quantitative and systematic investment manager operatingacross liquid asset classes and markets worldwide. Our approach to investing is scientific: we bring together data, research, technologyand trading expertiseto develop and run systematic strategies.
Technology is central to how QRT works. Over the years, we have built a global research and execution platform spanning geographies, asset classesand trading horizons, from ultra-low-latency systems to large-scale research, analyticsand risk infrastructure. We invest heavily in engineering, automationand scalable systems because better technology allows us to test ideas faster, operatemore reliably and tackle harder problems.
Our internships are designed to give students meaningful experience of that work. You’lljoin a team, contribute to real projectsand learn from engineers, researchers and traders working on live problems. The environment is technical, collaborative and demanding, with plenty of scope to ask questions, test ideas and take ownership. Strong performanceduring the internship may lead to consideration for a full-time graduate role.
Your future role at QRT
As a Technology Intern, you’llhelp build the systems, platforms and tools behind QRT’s research, tradingand investment activities. You’llwork alongside experienced engineers, quantitative developers, researchers and traders, contributing to production technology and solving problems where performance, reliabilityand good engineering judgement matter.
Depending on your interests and strengths, you may join one of two Technology disciplines.
Software Engineer (London, Wrocław, Zurich)
Software Engineers build the technology that underpins QRT’s trading and investment activities. This includes the platforms and infrastructure that connect us to global markets, brokersand data providers, as well as the systems used for order generation, execution, analytics, risk managementand P&L reporting.
The engineering problems vary considerably inscale and shape. At one end, we build ultra-low-latency execution technology where small improvements can matter. At the other, we develop global, cross-asset platforms that need to process large volumes of data reliably and make complex information accessible to users across the firm.
As an intern, you’llwork with experienced engineers, quantitative developersand researchers on a defined technical problem. You’llbe expected to understand the problem properly, make sensible engineering choices and build something useful.
Examples of projects you may work on include:
- AI-Powered Static Analysis - Build a tool combining static analysis and large language models to identifydouble-deletion and memory-management issues in our public API.
- Exchange Simulator Advanced Order Support - Extend our Exchange Simulator to support market orders, time-in-force instructionsand algorithmic orders, making strategy testing more representative of live trading.
- Risk Data Platform - Extend our risk data platform to provide the data requiredto support trading in a new trade type.
- Lightweight Trading UI - Create a lightweight trading interface with order entry, live market and position views, and clear visualisation of trading activity.
Quantitative Developer (London, Paris, Wrocław, Dubai, Aarhus, Amsterdam)
Quantitative Developers work at the intersection of research, tradingand engineering. Sitting close to the trading desk, they work directly with researchers and traders to build the technology needed to explore ideas, analyse marketsand run strategies in production.
The role combines strong software engineering with an understanding of how technology can make quantitative research and trading more effective. That might mean building high-performance execution systems, improving research infrastructure, developing machine learning platformsor creating tools that make complex data easier to work with.
You’llwork on live technical problems where performance, reliability and iteration speed all matter. It’sa collaborative role with direct exposure to quantitative research, financial marketsand production trading systems.
Examples of projects you may work on include:
- Real-Time Trading Systems - Build high-performance C++ systems for real-time trading, contributing to low-latency infrastructure and execution technology where every microsecond can matter.
- Quantitative Research Platforms - Help develop the platforms used for quantitative research across QRT, including machine learning systems and data pipelines that allow researchers to test and scale ideas efficiently.
- Research and Trading Tools - Design tools that simplify workflows, improve access to dataand make complex information easier to understand through effective visualisation. You’llwork directly with traders, researchersand risk teams to understand their problems and build practical solutions.
Your current skillset
- Eligibility: Penultimate or final-year students pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’sin a STEM discipline, such as Computer Science, Physics, Mathematicsor a related Engineering subject, on track for a 2:1 or above from a leading institution.
- Interest in technology: You enjoy solving technical problems and are curious about how systems work. You’reinterested in building things, not just studying them.
- Software engineering experience: We value hands-on experience wherever you gained it - through personal projects, open-source contributions, hobbies, internshipsor academic work.
- Programming: Proficiencyin C++, C#or Python.
- Tools: Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or Bash, and tools and technologies including Git, SQL, GCC and Linux.
- Mindset: Curious, proactiveand comfortable asking questions. You look for ways to make systems simpler, fasteror more reliable and can turn those observations into practical improvements.
- Approach: Self-motivated, thoughtfuland comfortable taking ownership of a problem.
Interviewing
- Application - Submit your application online. We review applications on a rolling basis, so applying early is recommended.
- Technical Assessment - Selected candidates will complete a coding challenge focused on core programming and problem-solving skills.
- Assessment Centre / Online Interviews - Shortlisted candidates will take part in interviews, either on-site at an assessment centre or via Microsoft Teams. We’llexplore your technical thinking, how you approach unfamiliar problems and how you work with others.
