They are composed of precision optics, custom electronics, liquid-cooled electronics racks, and ultra-high-vacuum systems. The Hardware Engineering group designs, builds, and delivers that platform. We are moving towards repeatable, production-quality machine builds, and we need people who know how to build.\nThe role\nWe're hiring a Mechanical Technician to be the hands-on support for our Hardware Engineering team. You'll advise on designs, fabricate, assemble, test, and troubleshoot the mechanical and fluid systems inside our quantum computers - and you'll help us turn in-house knowledge into procedures and fixtures that our present and future contract manufacturers can execute.\nYou'll work directly with mechanical, electrical, and optical engineers and with physicists on live machines. You'll be a first call when something needs to be built or fixed right now, and be a driver in making our builds measurable, repeatable, and safe.\nWhat you'll do:\nMachine and module assembly\nBuild and integrate mechanical subassemblies for our machines: electronics racks, enclosures and frames, cold plates and liquid-cooling manifolds, cable management, and opto-mechanical module hardware.\nPerform precision assembly to documented procedures - torque specs, cleanliness requirements, fastener control, serialization.\nSupport installation and rework on operating machines, coordinating carefully with the scientists and engineers who run them.\nTest, inspection, and troubleshooting\nExecute pressure and leak tests, flow checks, and mechanical inspections; record results and flag anything out of spec.\nDiagnose mechanical and fluid-system problems on the floor and drive them to a fix, escalating design issues to engineering with clear evidence.\nSupport root-cause investigations with hands-on teardown, measurement, and recreation of failure modes.\nFabrication and prototyping\nRun and own the mechanical development room and machine shop: manual/CNC-assist mill, saws, drill press, hand tools, and layout/inspection equipment.\nMachine fixtures, brackets, adapters, and one-off parts from engineering drawings or sketches; make sound judgment calls on tolerances, materials, and finish.\nKeep the shop organized, tooled, stocked, and safe; train engineers and co-ops on safe tool use.\nManufacturing and contract-manufacturer support\nTurn engineer intent into build-ready work instructions, travelers, and fixture designs; red-line drawings when the part doesn't match the print.\nPerform incoming inspection and first-article inspection on parts and assemblies from suppliers and contract manufacturers.\nTravel occasionally to contract manufacturers to train their technicians, qualify processes, and troubleshoot builds.\nLab infrastructure and safety\nMaintain lab mechanical infrastructure: chillers and cooling loops, racks and tables, compressed gas and utilities.\nFollow and help improve our safety practices - lockout/tagout, liquid-cooling shutoffs and leak detection, laser-lab conduct.\nMentor junior technicians and engineering co-ops.\nWhat we're looking for:\nRequired\n2-5 years as a mechanical technician or mechanical assembler, with knowledge of small shop practices and organization\n\nExperience with fluid systems (1/8\" - 1/2\" dia), machined piece part fab and assembly, and small electronics buildup \n\nAbility to be coached and quickly learn and adopt new skills\n\nBasic understanding of machining practice and processes\n\nOrganized and self-motivated, with a positive attitude\n\nAble to lift 50 lb, work on ladders and under tables, and spend most of the day on your feet in a lab.\nClear written and verbal communication; knowledge of task documentation processes.\n\nNice to have\nSoldering and cable construction\nCNC programming (conversational or CAM) and experience standing up a small shop.\nBasic CAD (SolidWorks or Inventor) to model fixtures or fix a drawing.\nExperience writing work instructions or SOPs, or training others to a procedure.\nFamiliarity with vacuum hardware, opto-mechanics, and/or cleanroom practice.\n\nExperience supporting a transition of in-house designs to contract manufacturing (FAI, supplier visits, process qualification).\n\nWelding, brazing, or sheet-metal fabrication.\nWhy this role:\nYou'll be building machines that very few people in the world know how to build, on a team small enough that your work is visible every day. You'll have real ownership of a shop and a process, be a direct support for the engineers designing the hardware, and help shape how QuEra manufactures its next generation of quantum computers.\nThe salary for this role is $125,000+. We consistently monitor external market data and update base salary ranges accordingly. We determine base compensation decisions on several factors, including as geographic placement, role-specific knowledge, skills, and/or experience. In addition to our base salary offerings, we also provide equity grants for all new hires.\nQuEra is committed to cultivating a diverse work environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We highly value diversity in our current and future employees and do not discriminate (including in our hiring and promotion practices) based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status, or any other characteristic protected by law.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5457,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"phd","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Quantum Science & Computing","Quantum Computing Hardware"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-29T18:55:37Z"}],"visa":[{"country":"US","licensed_sponsor":true,"evidence":"H-1B filings in 12 months: 10","filings_12m":10,"filings_prev_12m":8,"green_card_filings_12m":0,"median_offered_wage_usd":177500,"route":null,"cap_exempt":false,"checked_at":"2026-10-29T16:27:21+00:00","sources":["US Department of Labor: LCA disclosure data (H-1B, H-1B1, E-3)","US Department of Labor: PERM disclosure data (green cards)"],"filings_for_role_12m":0}],"liveness":{"score":90,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.903,"p_room":1,"age_days":3,"expected_fill_days":58,"reasons":["conf:3","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-11-02T06:13:15Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/quera-computing-mechanical-technician-hardware-engineering","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/quera-computing-mechanical-technician-hardware-engineering.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-02T09:14:17Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":12866,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-03T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":179594},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=179594"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fquera-computing-mechanical-technician-hardware-engineering"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fquera-computing-mechanical-technician-hardware-engineering"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fquera-computing-mechanical-technician-hardware-engineering"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/quera-computing-mechanical-technician-hardware-engineering\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fquera-computing-mechanical-technician-hardware-engineering"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3476375}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"quera.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3476375},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
