What we do matters.\nQuest Defense Systems & Solutions (QDSS) is seeking a Software Verification & Validation Engineer to support safety-critical embedded software for aerospace and defense applications.\nIn this role, you’ll verify software running in real-time operating system (RTOS) environments, perform hardware/software integration testing, and evaluate software artifacts against DO-178C Design Assurance Level A (DAL A) objectives. You’ll work with engineering teams to identify issues, document results, and ensure verification activities align with project requirements and standards.\nLocation: Remote in the United States\nU.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.\nWhat You’ll Do\nIndependently review software plans, requirements, implementation, test artifacts, and processes for alignment with DO-178C DAL A objectives and applicable project standards.\nDevelop, review, and execute requirements-based test cases and procedures addressing high-level requirements (HLR) and low-level requirements (LLR).\nPerform software integration testing and system-level hardware/software integration testing in embedded RTOS environments.\nAnalyze test results, investigate discrepancies, document findings, and collaborate with engineering teams to resolve issues.\nReview traceability between software requirements, test procedures, and verification results.\nLearn and apply client architecture, tools, infrastructure, and engineering processes while contributing to active verification work.\nManage assigned tasks, communicate progress clearly, and raise technical issues or roadblocks promptly.\nRequired Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.\nAt least 4 years of relevant software engineering experience in avionics or embedded electronic controls within a safety- or mission-critical environment.\nExperience developing software to DO-178C standards.\nExperience developing an RTOS or embedded software that runs on an RTOS, with a working understanding of RTOS concepts.\nExperience with C and Python.\nHands-on integration and test experience at both the system level, including hardware/software integration, and the software level, including testing against high- and low-level requirements.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nMaster’s degree in Software Engineering or a related engineering discipline.\nExperience developing software to DO-178C DAL A standards.\nExperience with ARM processors and associated system-on-chip (SoC) features.\nExperience with multicore embedded systems, asymmetric multiprocessing, or debugging complex SoC architectures.\nExperience developing device drivers or board support packages (BSPs).\nFamiliarity with data transfer interfaces and protocols such as ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, and PCIe.\nExperience with boundary value analysis (BVA), structural coverage analysis (SCA), and data and control coupling analysis (DCCA).\nExperience with DO-330 tool qualification.\nFamiliarity with security concepts, including authentication, authorization, and confidentiality.\nStrong communication and collaboration skills, including active listening, independent task management, and the ability to adapt to new projects and engineering environments.\nThe QDSS Advantage: \nAt QDSS, our advantage is purpose-driven work, collaborative teams, and complex challenges that push boundaries and build lasting impact.
