This role focuses on EOL/NRND risk identification, alternate component qualification, and BOM health management using tools such as Z2Data, Arena PLM, and Altium. The engineer will work closely with hardware, firmware/software, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure continuity of supply and minimize disruptive redesigns.\nThis is a hands-on, technical role, not an administrative BOM function.\nKey Responsibilities\nComponent Lifecycle & Obsolescence Management\nProactively monitor EOL, NRND, PCN, and LTB notifications using Z2Data (and similar tools)\n\nIdentify components at risk before they impact production or new designs\n\nMaintain and periodically scrub BOMs for lifecycle health and supply risk\n\nOwn component-related actions for sustaining engineering programs\n\nAlternate Component Identification & Qualification\nResearch and propose form-fit-function compatible alternates\n\nPerform technical suitability assessments (electrical, mechanical, thermal, compliance)\n\nCoordinate with hardware and firmware teams to evaluate impact of alternates\n\nSupport qualification activities (documentation, testing requirements, supplier data)\n\nBOM, PLM, and Change Management\nCreate and maintain approved alternates and sourcing strategies in Arena PLM\n\nAuthor and manage ECRs/ECOs for:\nAdding alternate components\n\nDeprecating obsolete or high-risk parts\n\nUpdating compliance or sourcing data\n\nEnsure BOMs align across Altium (design) and Arena (release/manufacturing)\n\nCompliance & Documentation\nMaintain component-level compliance data (RoHS, REACH, etc.)\n\nSupport product-level compliance needs by ensuring accurate component records\n\nReview and release component-related documentation as part of ECOs\n\nCross-Functional & Supplier Collaboration\nWork closely with:\nHardware engineering (schematics, PCB impact)\n\nFirmware/software teams (pin/functionality changes)\n\nManufacturing and contract manufacturers (availability, substitutions)\n\nInterface with distributors and manufacturers when validating alternates\n\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or equivalent experience\n\n5+ years experience as a Component Engineer, Sustaining Engineer, or similar role\n\nDemonstrated experience managing EOL/lifecycle risk in production hardware\n\nRequired Skills & Experience\nComponent Engineering & Lifecycle\nStrong understanding of:\nPassive and active components\n\nManufacturer part numbering and attributes\n\nLifecycle states (Active, NRND, EOL)\n\nProven experience qualifying alternate components for released products\n\nTools & Systems\nHands-on experience with Arena PLM (ECR/ECO workflows, alternates, sourcing)\n\nExperience using Z2Data or similar lifecycle intelligence tools\n\nFamiliarity with Altium Designer or equivalent ECAD tools (read/review level)\n\nTechnical Competence\nAbility to assess alternate parts against:\nElectrical specifications\n\nPin compatibility and package differences\n\nApplication-specific constraints\n\nUnderstanding of PCB design implications (footprints, derating, spacing)\n\nCommunication & Execution\nClear written and verbal communication for ECOs and technical tradeoffs\n\nComfortable working across engineering, operations, and supply chain teams\n\nSelf-directed and proactive able to identify risks without waiting for issues\n\nNice-to-Have (Not Required)\nExperience working with contract manufacturers\n\nFamiliarity with medical, industrial, or regulated products\n\nExperience supporting multi-product sustaining
