Who We Are

Radio Free Asia (RFA) is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) media organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., with editorial and operational bureaus in Taipei, Bangkok, and Seoul. A congressionally funded grantee of the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), RFA operates with full editorial independence.

Our mission is to provide accurate, uncensored news and information to people living in countries where a free press does not exist. RFA produces journalism in multiple Asian languages and delivers news through web, radio, video, podcasts, social media, and other digital platforms.

The International Desk serves as RFA's English-language newsroom. Working across RFA's language services, the desk identifies, enhances, and publishes the organization's most important journalism for global audiences through English web, multimedia, podcasts, newsletters, social media, and other digital platforms. The desk also produces original English reporting, enterprise journalism, and special projects that advance RFA's mission of providing accurate, independent, and uncensored news.

Job Summary

The Senior Multiplatform Journalist plays a leading editorial role in RFA's English-language newsroom. Working closely with the Senior Editor and journalists across RFA's language desks, the position identifies, develops, edits, and publishes the organization's most important journalism for international audiences.

The Senior Multiplatform Journalist is responsible for producing original reporting, enterprise stories, interviews, explainers, and multimedia journalism, while also adapting and enhancing reporting from RFA's language services for English-speaking audiences. The role requires outstanding editorial judgment, excellent English writing and editing skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across a multilingual newsroom to produce timely, accurate, and engaging journalism.

The position also plays a key role in expanding the global reach and impact of RFA's journalism by producing original English reporting and bringing the organization's strongest multilingual journalism to international audiences.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

English Editorial Production

  • Identify the most newsworthy and impactful stories produced across RFA's language desks for English publication.
  • Edit, rewrite, translate, and adapt stories into clear, accurate, and engaging English while preserving editorial integrity and nuance.
  • Produce high-quality English news stories, enterprise reports, features, interviews, explainers, analysis, and special reports.
  • Ensure all English-language content meets RFA's editorial standards, legal requirements, style guidelines, and digital publishing best practices.
  • Work closely with editors and journalists throughout RFA to verify facts, strengthen reporting, and ensure timely publication.

Original Reporting

  • Produce original news reports, enterprise stories, feature articles, interviews, explainers, analytical pieces, and investigative projects.
  • Develop original story ideas that complement and expand reporting produced by RFA's language desks.
  • Conduct interviews with government officials, subject matter experts, academics, civil society representatives, and other newsmakers.

Cross-Language Editorial Coordination

  • Collaborate with editors and journalists across RFA's language desks to identify stories of regional and international significance.
  • Coordinate cross-language enterprise reporting, investigative projects, and special editorial initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to combine reporting from multiple language desks into comprehensive English coverage.

Multiplatform Content Production

  • Publish content across RFA's English-language digital platforms, including the website, newsletters, podcasts, social media, video, and emerging digital products.
  • Write compelling headlines, summaries, captions, newsletters, and social media copy optimized for digital audiences.
  • Contribute to podcast production, video scripting, multimedia storytelling, and audience engagement initiatives.
  • Source and verify photographs, graphics, video, and other multimedia assets while maintaining the highest standards of journalistic integrity.

Mentorship & Collaboration

  • Mentor junior Multiplatform Journalists by providing editorial guidance, constructive feedback, and support for professional development.
  • Share best practices in reporting, writing, editing, and digital storytelling to strengthen the International Desk.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, International Affairs, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional journalism experience, including substantial experience in reporting, writing, and editing. A portfolio demonstrating impact, depth, and multiplatform versatility is required when submitting your application.
  • Demonstrated experience producing original reporting, enterprise journalism, feature stories, or investigative journalism.
  • Strong editorial judgment, fact-checking skills, and the ability to synthesize complex information into compelling journalism.
  • Experience producing content across web, audio, video, podcasts, newsletters, social media, and other digital platforms.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across multilingual newsrooms and work successfully in a fast-paced international environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Asian affairs, democracy, human rights, regional security, and international issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior and mid-level journalists, providing structured editorial guidance, draft review, and developmental feedback.
  • High degree of fluency in English and professional working proficiency in one of RFA’s languages, with exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in multilingual or international news organizations.
  • Experience with multimedia storytelling, podcast production, video journalism, SEO, content management systems, analytics, and digital audience engagement.
  • Familiarity with video editing workflows, software, and short-form broadcast-quality video production.
  • Familiarity with data journalism tools, digital graphics production, or interactive storytelling formats.
  • Experience developing enterprise reporting, investigative journalism, or special editorial projects.
  • On-camera reporting or podcast hosting experience.
  • Awards, recognitions, or notable publications demonstrating editorial excellence and journalistic impact.
  • Possession of valid work authorization for Taiwan is highly advantageous for this role.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

This is a full-time position based in Taipei, Taiwan. The role requires flexibility in working hours to support breaking news coverage and collaborate with editorial teams across multiple time zones. Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.
