Department Overview

The Analytics & Metrics Department (AMD) drives data-informed product strategies for Rakuten’s flagship platforms, including Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuma, and others. We bridge advanced data science and executive decision-making by building modern analytical pipelines, conversion models, interactive dashboards, and custom Agentic AI systems built from the ground up.

Position Details

・User Behavior & Product Direction

Mine user journey and clickstream data to spot drop-offs, churn patterns, and unmet needs-turning raw user behavior into concrete product features

・Predictive Modeling & ML Insights

Apply machine learning methodologies (clustering, classification, predictive analytics) to infer complex product usage patterns and deliver actionable business insights (with guidance from senior data scientists)

・AI Agents & Workflow Automation

Utilize and adapt open-source agentic frameworks (vetted and tested by our team) to configure custom analytical agents, automate routine reporting, and speed up complex tasks

・Core Marketplace Analytics

Analyze core business drivers (GMV, retention, seller performance, campaign ROI) to find growth opportunities across Rakuten Ichiba and Rakuma

・A/B Testing & Experimentation

Design, run, and evaluate A/B tests (power analysis, sample sizing, hypothesis testing) to measure the true impact of product changes and algorithm updates

・Cross-Functional Partnering

Turn complex statistical analysis into practical recommendations for product managers and business stakeholders

・Cloud Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Vertex AI)

・Data Pipelines & Orchestration: Airflow, Dataform, dbt

・Data Analysis & Querying: SQL, Python (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn)

・AI & Agentic Workflows: OpenCode and team-vetted open-source Agentic AI frameworks (for custom skills and automation)

・Version Control & Agile Collaboration: Git/GitHub, Jira

Mandatory Qualifications:

・Bachelor’s in a quantitative field (Stats, Math, CS, Economics, or similar)

・Over 2 years of hands-on experience as an Analyst or Scientist. (We consider 2 years as our baseline-we actively look for high-potential candidates and are committed to mentoring you in advanced ML and Agentic automation methodologies)

・SQL: Fluent in writing clean, optimized queries, preferably on large data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Hive, etc.).

・Python/R: Hands-on experience using libraries like pandas and numpy for data manipulation, stats, and visualization

・Practical grasp of A/B testing, hypothesis testing, power analysis, and statistical significance

・Effective English communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

・Interest in learning or building Agentic AI workflows for analytics automation

・Familiarity with user clickstream tracking, funnel conversion analysis, or customer LTV modeling

・Conversational or business-level Japanese language skills are a welcomed bonus for collaborating directly with local business leads on Rakuten Ichiba
