As a Sr. Systems Design Engineer on our Sustaining Engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the long-term quality, reliability, and manufacturability of this advanced medical technology - directly supporting breakthroughs in personalized cancer treatment.\nThis role offers the opportunity to innovate, solve complex engineering challenges, and see your designs move from concept to patient impact - all while working in a collaborative environment that values creativity, initiative, and growth.\nKey Responsibilities:\n Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, reliability, and production yields.\n\n Update and optimize mechanical designs to improve performance and efficiency while ensuring compliance with global medical device standards.\n\n Investigate field issues and product complaints, lead root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions.\n\n Support design transfer to manufacturing, including prototyping, testing, supplier collaboration, and design verification.\n\n Prepare and maintain regulatory-compliant technical documentation (Design History File, Device Master Record, risk assessments).\n\n Apply risk-based design practices (FMEA) to guide engineering decision-making.\n\n Partner cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams to deliver practical, high-impact solutions.\n\nKe y Requirements:\n Minimum 8+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within the life sciences or medical device industry.\n\n Proven experience in electrical design of circuits, system and components (preferably medical devices).\n\n Strong working knowledge of ISO 13485, EU Annex V, GMP practices, and regulatory requirements for electrical safety and compliance (IEC 60601, IEC 61010, etc.).\n\n Proficiency in electrical design tools (Altium or similar), schematic capture, PCB layout, and circuit simulation,\n\n Hands-on knowledge of manufacturing processes for electrical components such as PCB fabrication, cable harnessing and assembly techniques.\n\n Expertise in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).\n\n Familiarity with IEC/ASTM/UL standards and testing methods.\n\n Strong problem-solving skills, electrical aptitude, and willingness to be hands-on with prototypes and testing.\n\n Clear and effective communication skills.\n\n Initiative and accountability - able to work independently while thriving in complex workflows.\n\nNice-to-Have:\n Experience with embedded systems, firmware and/or integration of electronics into medical equipment.\n\n Project management skills.\n\n Statistical analysis methods for reliability and performance testing.\n\nEvery day, Lonza’s products and services have a positive impact on millions of people.
