Collectors use our AI-powered card scanner, open their favorite chase cards with Instapacks, and keep track of them with our data-rich collection tools which showcases Pokémon, MTG, Lorcana, One Piece, and more. We've hit 10x revenue growth over the last 6 months, the business is profitable, and we're building the team to take this from a great product to a category-defining one.\nWe're a 10-person product team moving fast and looking for the next set of TCG-obsessed rock stars to join our team.\nThe Role\nWe’re hiring a mid-level Web Engineer to build the web experiences collectors use to discover products, manage their collections, shop drops, and open Instapacks.\nYou’ll work closely with the CTO and product, design, and engineering teams to take features from idea to production. This is a hands-on product engineering role for someone comfortable building modern web applications who can own a feature, make thoughtful technical decisions, and deliver a polished experience.\nYou won’t be handed endless tickets in a giant backlog. You’ll help shape solutions, work through tradeoffs, and take responsibility for how your features perform once they’re in collectors’ hands.\nIf you love trading cards or collector communities and want meaningful ownership at a fast-moving startup, this is a role for you.\nWhat Success Looks Like\nFirst 30 days: You get the web app running locally, understand the core product flows and frontend architecture, and ship your first meaningful improvements.\nBy day 90: You’re independently delivering well-scoped web features. You can clarify requirements, collaborate with design and backend engineers, implement the experience, test it, and verify it in production.\nBy the end of year one: You own important areas of the web product. You’ve shipped meaningful improvements to the collector experience, raised the bar for performance and usability, and made the codebase easier for the team to build on.\nWhat You'll Do\nBuild and improve responsive web experiences across Rare Candy’s collector-facing product.\n\nDevelop maintainable interfaces using React, TypeScript, and modern web tooling.\n\nIntegrate with GraphQL APIs and collaborate with backend engineers on data requirements and API contracts.\n\nOwn features from technical planning through implementation, testing, rollout, and follow-up improvements.\n\nBuild reusable components and consistent interaction patterns that help the team ship faster.\n\nMake experiences work well across devices and browsers, with attention to accessibility, loading states, error handling, and performance.\n\nInvestigate production bugs and address the underlying causes.\n\nWork closely with product and design to balance user needs, technical constraints, and delivery timelines.\n\nContribute thoughtful code reviews and communicate clearly about progress, tradeoffs, and blockers.\n\nA Day in Your Life at Rare Candy\nYou start the morning reviewing feedback on a recently shipped feature and checking how it’s performing for collectors.\nMid-morning, you’re working with design and a backend engineer to scope a new collection browsing experience, thinking through the API, filtering behavior, and mobile layout.\nAfter lunch, you’re building the interface, connecting it to live data, and handling loading, empty, and error states. You catch a slow interaction and track it down before opening your PR.\nLater in the day, you’re in a product discussion about an upcoming drop, bringing both your web engineering perspective and your own TCG fluency to the conversation.\nYou close the day by reviewing a teammate’s code and sharing your own PR with a clear summary, screenshots, and testing notes.\nYou Might Be a Fit If\nYou have around 3-5 years of web engineering experience and have shipped meaningful features in production.\n\nYou’re comfortable building with React and TypeScript and have strong fundamentals in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.\n\nYou can take a feature from a product brief or design through implementation and release without needing every step spelled out.\n\nYou’ve worked with GraphQL or REST APIs and understand data fetching, caching, and client-side state management.\n\nYou know how to build responsive, accessible interfaces and care about the details that make a web experience feel good.\n\nYou can reason through component design, rendering behavior, and performance tradeoffs without overcomplicating the solution.\n\nYou write useful tests and know how to debug issues across the browser, network requests, and API responses.\n\nYou communicate technical tradeoffs clearly and work well with designers, product partners, and other engineers.\n\nYou’re comfortable in a fast-moving startup where priorities can shift and you’re expected to help find the path forward.\n\nYou know the trading-card or collector world. You collect, play, rip packs, follow the market, or have real fluency in a similar collectible space.\n\nWhat You'll Need to Thrive Here\nYou’re expected to take ownership of your role at Rare Candy and drive your own growth. That doesn’t mean doing it alone. You’ll have support, context, and mentorship along the way.\nThe systems are still evolving, the team is small, and your work will matter immediately. You'll need to be curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable learning by doing.\nIf you like to build internal tools, solve operational issues, and the idea of building tools you would actually want to use yourself, you'll do great here.\nWhy Join Us Now\nWork on features collectors actually care about and are using everyday.\n\nGet real ownership early in your career while learning directly from experienced engineering leadership.\n\nJoin a high-trust, low-ego team that ships fast, celebrates wins, and cares deeply about the hobby.\n\nCompetitive startup comp, meaningful equity upside, and a salary range of $140,000-$160,000.\n\nFull benefits: health, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k), and a wellness stipend.\n\nA monthly dogfooding budget to spend on cards, because we hire people who love this hobby.\n\nHow to Apply\nApply through our Ashby posting and answer these:\nDescribe a web first app you built. What did you own, what technical choices did you make, and what was the result?\n\nExplain a bug you debugged. What made it tricky, how did you track it down, and what did you learn?\n\nWhat trading-card or collector communities do you understand best? Tell us your favorite card, set, format, deck, rip, or collector niche.\n\nRare Candy is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate individuality, from Pikachu collectors to Planeswalker pros, and are committed to building an inclusive team.","description_format":"text","description_chars":6907,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":3,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-28T15:03:45Z"}],"liveness":{"score":85,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.853,"p_room":1,"age_days":5,"expected_fill_days":17,"reasons":["conf:8","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-09-30T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":160000,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/rare-candy-web-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/rare-candy-web-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-09-30T06:34:27Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":4593,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":407,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-01T00:00:00Z"}}}
