To provide hands-on leadership for the day-to-day maintenance operation to reduce engineering downtime across all equipment.\nMinimum Requirements\nA Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.\nGCC factories or studying towards is a must have.\n5 years functional experience of which at least 3 years should be at engineering management level, in which a position of similar complexity has been held.\nDuties & Responsibilities\nLeadership:\nFocus the effort of all the engineering maintenance resources on meeting the following key areas of performance.Reducing engineering downtime whilst simultaneously reducing maintenance costs\nSuccessfully implement capital expenditure and cost reduction projects\nReducing operational and environmental risks and improving safety and product quality performance\nDriving team performance and accountability\nTeam development and succession planning\n\nLead from the shopfloor with a visible focus on achieving daily production throughput, improved safety, and product quality.\nDeliver on agreed succession plans and development of the generation of leaders and specialists, overseeing engineering development programmes and on the job training.\nDrives Employment Equity within the plant engineering team to ensure that diversity is achieved at all levels and that statutory targets and requirements are met.\nChampions training and development of the team utilizing available training opportunities, apprenticeships and on the job training to improve performance and reduce engineering downtime.\nContribute to the development of new training solutions in collaboration with group training specialists.\nConduct regular performance appraisals with subordinates and ensure that the process is cascaded throughout the engineering team.\nDevelop and manage high-performance multi-disciplinary teams to solve problems within engineering proactively.\nConduct daily operational meetings and ensure that records are kept and shared across the team and that action plans agreed to within team meetings are delivered upon.\nMaintain the integrity of the engineering team and carry out corrective action when required.\nManagement of the artisan and labour force with regards to HR and IR issues.\nAsset Care and Asset Performance:\nImplement the Asset Care and Asset Performance Strategy and Methodology process at the groceries site (see separate document) to achieve continuous improvement against the key areas of performance described in the Leadership section above.\nMake optimal use the engineering maintenance team and the key Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s) and their local representatives to reduce the cost of maintenance and to reduce engineering downtime.\nImplement best practices.\nEnsure all buildings and accessories are included in risk, security, safety, health, environmental, HACCP, VACCP, TACCP AND ISO 22000, 14001, 45001.\nEnsure all mechanical and electrical equipment and installations are maintained or installed in accordance with statutory requirements and business needs.\nOversee repairs and maintenance work.\nEnsure that all members of the engineering team are working according to safety regulations and ensure the enforcement of food safety requirements.\nBe available on call out and work on weekends or when necessary to ensure optimal performance of team and effective maintenance of equipment.\nPerform work inspections and checks for completeness of tasks.\nPlan and manage weekend maintenance tasks and projects against budget.\nCoordinates and inspects major contract work on the electrical, refrigeration, mechanical and plumbing, and other related systems.\nEnsures that the building has adequate heating, lighting, and ventilation and that it is properly cleaned, maintained and in good working condition.\nOperational Engineering Management:\nFulfil all legal and statutory requirements of the GMR (2) 7 appointment.\nResponsible for health and safety with regards to all equipment and plant to ensure a safe environment to operate and work on for all staff.\nDrive the daily / weekly maintenance planning process for the plant - prioritising, scheduling, and allocation of tasks to different discipline of the engineering department, with the assistance of the planner.\nMaintain the integrity of the engineering team and carry out corrective action when required.\nMaintain discipline and standards within the engineering team and within all areas of work on site.\nProject planning:\nStrategise capex focus on reducing plant down time and improve efficiencies of machines and lines.\nEnsure that health and safety requirements as per the RCL Foods standard are adhered to with regards to specifying new equipment.\nProcess change control documentation with regards to all equipment and plant changes with records for audit purposes.\nManage and control the fixed asset register and ensure that it is updated as per policy and depreciation is in line with group standards.\nConduct weekly project meetings to ensure all disciplines are aligned and that capex targets dates met in view of the year planner.\nHandle all investigations around IOD’s to establish all the facts to ensure prevention where possible and to address unacceptable or dangerous behaviour that can lead to injuries.\nSafety control of contractors.\nManagement of Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality (SHERQ).\nGuides the engineering team to ensure that all legislative standards are achieved, and timeous action is taken.\nMeasure and manage sustainability practices within area of responsibility.\nSuggest amendments to policies and practices within operational area of responsibility with the Production manager to ensure that these are kept up to date and are aligned with company objectives and standards.\nEnsure that documentation required within the Total Integrated Management system, is maintained, and applied consistently throughout the area of responsibility and any policy and procedure training required highlighted in the training needs analysis and action appropriately.\nEnsure that statutory inspections are executed as per legal and other requirements.\nEnsure all facilities comply with health, safety, environmental, security and other legal requirements.\nIdentify all operational risks and develop and implement risk reduction and/or risk mitigation plans.\nEnsures engineering staff follow safety rules and regulations as per organisation’s safety procedures.\nEnsure that security access points to the premises and BMS system is in good working condition.\nReporting theft and dangers on the premises.\nEnsures safety equipment and machinery is in good working order.\nEnsure that security is maintained and escalate any security concerns to the Operations Executive and SHERQ Manager.\nFinancial Management:\nManage maintenance and engineering labour costs to ensure lowest cost of production by the optimal utilisation of assets and the best of use of maintenance resources.\nReport on a weekly basis on actual cost KPI’s versus budget and work with team to address and areas of non-conformance or concern proactively and timeously.\nReport on and manage all costs.
