We want you to #JOINTHEREBELLION!

For 30 years we’ve been creating incredible video games at our multiple studios, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.

We're looking for an experienced Senior VFX Artist who is looking for their next exciting challenge to join a passionate and growing VFX team and work on an exciting new large-scale project, crafted by a seasoned team renowned for developing exceptional shooters.

The VFX team is responsible for all visual effects developed in Rebellion's games. Not only particle effects, but screen post effects, material effects, mesh destruction effects and UI effects, developed in Rebellion's proprietary engine “Asura”.

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone eager to embark on their path toward becoming a Lead VFX Artist!

This position can be based out of any of our studios in Oxford, Warwick or Runcorn, offering flexibility, collaboration, and the chance to work with a world-class team! We can provide a relocation package, including moving assistance, temporary accommodation, and full support to ensure a smooth transition to your new environment.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the creation of high-quality real-time visual effects, setting both artistic and technical benchmarks for the team.
  • Take ownership of complex effects work- from concept to final implementation- ensuring clarity, performance, and visual impact.
  • Collaborate with design, art, and code leadership to shape gameplay experiences and maintain a cohesive project vision.
  • Mentor and support junior and mid-level artists, sharing best practices and fostering growth across the team.
  • Anticipate technical challenges, propose creative solutions, and help establish efficient workflows and pipelines.
  • Contribute to documentation, reference gathering, and effect libraries, ensuring resources remain clear and accessible for the wider team.

Requirements

  • Proven professional experience in real-time VFX, with a portfolio that demonstrates exceptional timing, clarity, artistry, and technical execution.
  • Advanced proficiency with industry-standard tools such as Blender, Photoshop, Substance, and After Effects (or equivalent software).
  • Deep understanding of particle system design, texture workflows, and real-time performance optimisation.
  • Strong experience with simulation tools like Houdini and Embergen (or similar) for creating complex flipbook assets and simulations.
  • Ability to take abstract concepts, design goals, or high-level direction and translate them into polished, performant effects that enhance gameplay and storytelling.
  • A track record of collaborating effectively across design, art, and code to influence and deliver on a cohesive project vision.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior and mid-level artists, sharing knowledge, and setting high standards for craft.
  • Familiarity with pipelines, profiling, source control, and performance budgets, with the ability to identify and solve technical challenges proactively.

Benefits

We offer an extensive benefits package to our team including:

  • 22 days holidays + Christmas closure (typically 4 days) & Bank holidays (increasing with service at 5 years - one day each year until you reach 31 days)
  • Private Medical Insurance, healthcare cash plan, including dental and Vision
  • Life Assurance, Income Protection & Critical Illness Cover
  • Enhanced Family Leave
