Identify opportunities where AI can enhance developer productivity, code quality, and team velocity.\nDrive innovation within your team by experimenting with new approaches and boldly solving complex engineering challenges.\nRequirements\nAcademic background oriented toward computer science, engineering, or software development disciplines.\nDevelopment using Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Kafka and AWS.\nExperience in Python is a plus.\nExperience with asynchronous programming.\nTrack record of success in hands-on backend engineering positions.\nExperience working with domains of medium to high complexity.\nA solid understanding of how web and mobile applications work including security, session management, and best development practices.\nKnowledge of relational database systems and Object Oriented Programming.\nKnowledge of Domain-Driven Design (DDD); familiarity with microservice architecture is a plus.\nExperience conducting code reviews, driving knowledge sharing, and promoting collaborative development practices.\nAbility to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, learn rapidly and master diverse web technologies and techniques.\nProven ability to design complex distributed applications built for high performance and throughput while being scalable and reliable.\nPractical experience applying AI frameworks in development projects.\nDemonstrated experience profiling and performance tuning Java applications, and using monitoring tools for production application monitoring.\nSoft Skills\nStrategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing technical and process gaps.\nHigh degree of autonomy and accountability, capable of leading technical decisions and driving initiatives with minimal supervision.\nProven mentorship capabilities, fostering the growth of junior and mid-level engineers through guidance, feedback, and pairing.\nStrong communication skills, with the ability to effectively articulate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nAbility to collaborate cross-functionally with different chapters like engineering, frontend, product, design, backend, and infrastructure to deliver high-impact solutions.\nComfortable navigating ambiguity and complexity, with a mindset focused on continuous learning and system improvement.\nDemonstrated influence in shaping engineering practices and elevating team-wide technical standards.\nAlignment with company values: ownership, excellence, adaptability, and innovation.\nIndustry-Specific Knowledge\nIt is desirable for Staff Backend Engineers to have hands-on experience or practical familiarity with one or more core financial domains such as lending, payments, credit cards, open finance, fraud prevention, merchant acquiring, or investment services. A strong understanding of key operational workflows, integration patterns, and data flows within these domains is highly valued, especially in contexts where backend decisions impact performance, compliance, or financial accuracy at scale.\nIdeal candidates will have led or significantly contributed to the architecture and development of backend systems powering critical financial use cases, such as real-time transaction processing, loan management engines, payment orchestration layers, settlement and reconciliation services, or KYC/AML-compliant onboarding pipelines. Experience designing secure, auditable, and scalable APIs for internal and external consumers is also highly desirable.
