Position Summary

Under the direction of Cash Management, supports the appropriate circulation of a significant value of currency and coin inventory to meet the needs of depository institutions and public citizens during normal operations and during business continuity periods. Responsible for implementation and execution of the business and operational strategies, administers cash systems to ensure optimal workflow and production. Develops and utilizes working relationships within the team, department, District, Bank customers and other external business partners, etc. in support of essential mission work. May support management in completing required financial and operational quality control and compliance audits. Monitors and acts on deposit quality issues to facilitate maximum production, customer service, and manages unit workflow and currency and coin inventory management. This position is a critical function of the Bank and may require extended work hours and or work during business continuity periods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently demonstrates highly technical knowledge of one or more of the Cash Services functions and associated systems, such as Currency Processing and Destruction, Currency Paying and Receiving, and Coin Paying and Receiving. This includes both knowledge of the operating environment (equipment, software, workflows, etc.), as well as the controls/policies/procedures and other governance materials related to the function. May perform supervisory duties as required by various governance policies and procedures. Complete financial and procedural management audits to ensure department controls are operating effectively.
  • Is highly proficient in a specific unit of the Cash Services Operation, such as theCurrency Processing and Destruction f unction. These duties include: providing operational support to Bank staff operating in this function; completing daily machine setup; supporting the implementation of software/hardware upgrades; resolving equipment related concerns, as well as software concerns; facilitating the completing of reject/re-entry mode processing; providing oversight of shredder jam recoveries; providing oversight to power resets; and assisting in resolving complex issues and out-of-balance conditions that arise within the operation. May also support setup activities for currency destruction activities such as IDA and RND. Collaborates with management and Cash staff to ensure that all processing is completed within specified operating hours.
  • Is highly proficient in a specific unit of the Cash Services Operation such as the Paying/Receiving/Coin Processing Unit. These duties includ e: coordinating daily resource allocation and team setup; resolving carrier discrepancies; monitoring required reports and logs that may be maintained; and assisting in resolving complex out-of-balance conditions within critical processing time-frames. Performs designated “supervisory” functions within the inventory and transaction system (FedCash Central) and coordinates workflow of unit duties and staff by assigning work as well as performing various technical and administrative functions as needed. Performs required staff observations and reviews through use of the video surveillance system and through live observation.
  • Provides support to the Currency Processing and Destruction function, the Currency Paying and Receiving function, or the Coin Paying and Receiving function, to monitor operational, equipment, and staff performance in various metrics. May also coordinate the monitoring of machine efficiency and effectiveness, working in close contact with vendor Field Engineers or other Cash stakeholders.
  • Recommends denominational mix and amount of currency to be processed for the High Speed function to reduce backlog of currency and to keep the age of currency, by denomination, within System-mandated aging parameters.
  • Provides oversight and review of all team financial accounting records and other team paperwork for the various operational units of the Cash Services Department. Monitors and acts on deposit quality issues from depository institutions.
  • Coordinates and conducts ongoing training of Cash Services staff members and provides periodic progress reports on team development. May assist with the administration of counterfeit testing and certification for the staff.
  • Reviews the digital video surveillance system regularly to ensure it is operating within specified parameters to include reviewing the quality of video images, ensuring the appropriate availability of different views, ensuring appropriate time synchronizations with FedCash Central and other FRS applications, and other duties as required.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills and may draft written forms of memoranda, presentations, etc., to be utilized by department leadership.
  • Provides recommendations to management to enhance department controls and efficiencies and completes projects and analyses assigned by management. Provides support for the implementation of new software releases and technical advice and support prior to the implementation of new procedures and/or reporting requirements.

Education: Associate's Degree or 2 years equivalent experience; Bachelor's Degree preferred

Additional Requirements:

  • This position will require at minimum fingerprinting for a criminal background check, education and employment verification, along with potential additional screening requirements due to the information accessed while performing the job.
