You will create realistic software engineering problems involving bug fixing, feature implementation, codebase refactoring, and performance optimization, alongside reference solutions and deterministic verification tests.\nThis opportunity is suited to developers with strong programming fundamentals, practical debugging experience, and demonstrable contributions to open-source projects. Previous AI experience is not required.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign realistic, challenging coding tasks that assess an AI system’s ability to solve software engineering problems.\n\nBuild reproducible reinforcement learning environments for evaluating code generation, debugging, and implementation capabilities.\n\nDevelop reference solutions for coding tasks and implement deterministic verifiers that accept valid solutions and reject incorrect ones.\n\nDiagnose and resolve complex software defects, performance bottlenecks, and implementation issues across diverse codebases.\n\nImplement scalable, maintainable features while following established software engineering practices.\n\nRefactor existing code to improve readability, efficiency, maintainability, and reliability.\n\nApply algorithms, data structures, and computer science fundamentals to practical engineering problems.\n\nDocument technical reasoning, implementation decisions, debugging approaches, and solution strategies.\n\nReview and validate code contributions and technical submissions for correctness, quality, and clarity.\n\nRequired Qualifications\nStrong hands-on software engineering experience in at least one relevant programming language, such as Python, Java, Rust, Go, C++, or TypeScript.\n\nDemonstrable software development experience, preferably supported by open-source contributions and a public GitHub profile.\n\nStrong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles.\n\nPractical experience debugging complex code, fixing bugs, and implementing features.\n\nFamiliarity with automated testing, code reviews, and software quality practices.\n\nAbility to analyze unfamiliar codebases and develop effective, reliable solutions.\n\nStrong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience developing backend services, scalable applications, and APIs.\n\nSignificant contributions to open-source projects.\n\nExperience refactoring large codebases or modernizing legacy systems.\n\nDemonstrated success improving application performance and resolving system bottlenecks.\n\nExperience delivering complex features from planning through implementation.\n\nFamiliarity with reproducible development environments, automated evaluation, or reinforcement learning environments.\n\nKey Skills\nPython 3, Java, Rust, Go, C++, TypeScript, Node.js, algorithms, data structures, GitHub, open-source development, codebase refactoring, bug fixing, feature implementation, performance optimization, automated testing, backend development, API development, debugging, code review, and logical reasoning.\nCompensation\nThe hourly rate is $50-$100, equivalent to approximately $96,000-$192,000 per year at 1,920 working hours annually. Actual earnings depend on task availability, completion, acceptance, and time spent.
