Actual earnings for this role will depend on the approximately 15-hour weekly workload, tasks completed, and project requirements.\nAbout the Role\nWe are seeking experienced Software Engineers to contribute to the development and evaluation of next-generation AI systems.\nIn this role, you will apply your software engineering expertise to create realistic, challenging coding tasks for AI systems and evaluate how effectively they solve those tasks. Your work will help improve how AI models learn, reason, debug, and implement software.\nYou do not need prior AI experience. Strong software engineering judgment, coding ability, and practical experience building and maintaining production-quality systems are the primary requirements.\nKey Responsibilities\nCreate realistic and challenging coding tasks involving feature implementation, bug fixing, and software development.\n\nDevelop deterministic verifiers that accept valid solutions and reject incorrect or incomplete solutions.\n\nReview and evaluate AI-generated solutions against defined technical requirements.\n\nIdentify software bugs, implementation issues, and performance bottlenecks.\n\nWork with codebases requiring debugging, refactoring, testing, and performance optimization.\n\nDesign tasks that accurately assess software engineering reasoning and implementation ability.\n\nApply strong code review and testing practices to ensure high-quality technical outputs.\n\nWork across backend technologies and programming languages as required by individual projects.\n\nRequired Qualifications\nStrong professional experience in backend software engineering.\n\nExperience with one or more of Python, Java, Rust, TypeScript, C++, Node.js, Go, or similar languages.\n\nStrong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and foundational computer science concepts.\n\nExperience building scalable services and APIs.\n\nStrong debugging and problem-solving skills.\n\nExperience implementing software features and fixing complex bugs.\n\nExperience with automated testing and maintaining reliable code.\n\nAbility to analyze existing codebases and identify opportunities for improvement.\n\nStrong technical communication and code review judgment.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nProven experience delivering high-quality, performant software projects.\n\nExperience diagnosing system bottlenecks and performance issues.\n\nExperience refactoring large or complex codebases.\n\nExperience implementing complex features in large-scale applications.\n\nStrong background in test strategy and automated testing.\n\nExperience building or maintaining large test suites.\n\nExperience diagnosing and resolving flaky tests.\n\nExperience establishing or improving engineering testing standards.\n\nTechnical Skills\nPython\n\nJava\n\nRust\n\nTypeScript\n\nC++\n\nNode.js\n\nGo\n\nAlgorithms & Data Structures\n\nBackend Development\n\nAPI Development\n\nBug Fixing\n\nFeature Implementation\n\nCodebase Refactoring\n\nPerformance Optimization\n\nAutomated Testing\n\nCode Review\n\nWork Schedule\nThis is a flexible remote contract position requiring approximately 15 hours per week.\nYou can choose the days and hours that work best for you, including weekends if preferred.\nSelection Process\nThe selection process is designed to evaluate your independent technical reasoning and software engineering ability.\nApplication and screening questions\n\nAI interview - approximately 30 minutes\n\nTechnical assessment, if required\n\nHiring manager review\n\nCandidates are expected to complete assessments independently without outside assistance.\nCompensation Structure\nCompensation is output-based. Experts are paid for tasks that meet the applicable project specifications and quality requirements.\nThe time required to complete individual tasks may vary based on experience, technical approach, and workflow.
