This role is responsible for leading all aspects of finance, controlling, cost accounting, financial planning & analysis, inventory management, capital investment oversight, internal controls, and performance reporting. Given the strategic importance of the Chilliwack facility and its continued growth, the role requires strong manufacturing finance expertise, deep knowledge of standard costing and inventory accounting, and experience supporting complex operational environments. The Controller would need to be autonomous, curious, self-driven and proactive.\n STRATEGIC FINANCE BUSINESS PARTNER\nServe as the primary financial advisor to the Plant Manager and Plant Leadership Team.\nParticipate in strategic and operational decision-making processes.\nProvide financial insights and recommendations to improve plant profitability and operational performance.\nChallenge assumptions and support informed business decisions through robust financial analysis.\nTranslate plant operational performance into actionable financial reporting and recommendations.\nSupport long-term strategic planning and investment decisions.\nMANUFACTURING COST ACCOUNTING & COST CONTROL\nOwn and manage all plant cost accounting processes.\nReview accurate standard costing models across raw materials, finished goods, labor, and overheads.\nAnalyze material usage and production variances.\nAnalyze yield performance; labor utilization; cost reduction opportunities.\nReview and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs), routings, recipes, and costing structures.\nEnsure accurate product costing and margin reporting.\nPartner with Operations to identify and implement manufacturing cost improvements.\nFINANCIAL PLANNING AND ANALYSIS (FP&A)\nLead the preparation of annual budget, strategic business plans and latest estimates.\nDevelop scenario analyses and financial models.\nIdentify financial risks and opportunities.\nMonitor and communicate plant performance against budget, forecast, and prior year results.\nLead monthly performance review processes with plant and corporate leadership.\nMONTH END AND YEAR END\nLead plant financial close activities.\nEnsure completeness and accuracy of plant financial results.\nPrepare monthly management reports and variance analysis.\nReconcile production, inventory, and financial results.\nPrepare all the relevant MEC accruals with their justification\nCoordinate audit support and external reporting requirements.\nEnsure compliance with IFRS, corporate accounting policies, and internal controls.\nINVENTORY & WORKING CAPITAL MANAGEMENT\nWork with Supply Chain team on inventory valuation and inventory accounting processes.\nEnsure inventory transactions are properly recorded and reconciled.\nOversee cycle counting programs; inventory adjustments and inventory write-offs.\nAnalyze slow-moving and excess inventories.\nPartner with Supply Chain and Operations to improve inventory turns and working capital performance.\nMaintain strong controls around raw material and finished premix inventories.\nCAPITAL EXPENDITURE (CAPEX) & PROJECT CONTROLLING\nProvide financial leadership for capital projects and plant investments.\nDevelop business cases and ROI analyses.\nMonitor capital project spending and forecast project costs.\nSupport project approval processes (purchase orders and invoices).\nEnsure proper capitalization of fixed assets.\nSupport construction-in-progress (CIP) accounting.\nSupport facility expansion, commissioning, and startup projects.\nGREENFIELD START UP & EXPANSION SUPPORT\nProvide financial leadership during facility startup, ramp-up, and expansion activities.\nSupport ERP implementation and process design.\nMaintain reporting structures, cost centers, standard costing, and internal controls.\nSupport commissioning, asset capitalization, and operational readiness activities.\nDevelop financial processes and governance standards for a growing manufacturing operation.\nREPORTING ANALYTICS & BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE\nDevelop and maintain financial and operational dashboards.\nProvide KPI reporting to plant leaders and HQ.\nUtilize SAP, Power Query, SAP BI Excel, and reporting tools to deliver actionable insights.\nDrive reporting automation and data accuracy initiatives.\nPresent financial performance and trends to senior leadership.\nGOVERNANCE, RISK & COMPLIANCE\nEnsure compliance with all company financial policies and procedures.\nMaintain a strong internal control environment.\nSupport internal and external audits.\nEnsure financial reporting integrity and transparency.\nOversee compliance related to inventory, procurement, capital spending, and manufacturing transactions.\nPartner with HQ Finance to maintain alignment with corporate governance standards.\n CPA designation (Canada) in good standing.\nBachelor’s degree in accounting/finance/commerce/business administration, MBA would be an asset.\nMinimum 7 years of progressive finance experience, with 5 years of manufacturing finance and cost accounting experience.\nPrior experience within food manufacturing; ingredients manufacturing; pharmaceutical manufacturing or regulated manufacturing environments.\nProven experience in standard costing/inventory accounting/manufacturing variance analysis/financial planning & analysis/budgeting and forecasting/internal controls/financial reporting.\nExperience supporting operational leadership teams.\nStrong financial modeling capabilities with advanced excel skills.\nExperience with ERP systems (SAP preferred).\nStrong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and internal control frameworks.\nExperience developing business intelligence and KPI reporting.\nExperience in greenfield manufacturing startup environments is an asset.\nExperience supporting facility construction/commissioning/manufacturing startup/asset capitalization would be an asset.\nSAP S/4HANA implementation experience and SAP FI/CO certification would be an asset.\nProject Management Professional (PMP) certification and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification would be an asset.\n The expected annual base salary range for this position is $110,000 to $120,000. The actual base salary for this position will depend on various factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience and work location.
