Red Hat is an American open source software company founded in 1993 that proved enterprises would pay for support, certification and long-term maintenance of software they could otherwise download for free. Its portfolio centres on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, the OpenShift Kubernetes platform, Ansible automation and middleware, all sold as subscriptions rather than licences. Acquired by IBM in 2019 for thirty-four billion dollars and run as a separate unit, it remains the reference point for how open source software is commercialised at enterprise scale.

The Platform Tools team, part of Linux Engineering, is looking for a highly motivated student who can join us in the Brno office and who wants to gain hands-on experience with open source and Red Hat products. In this role, you will work on maintenance of the Python language and its ecosystem, and the GNU Debugger (GDB) project. This long-term internship will give you the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced teams, and contribute to projects that are the backbone of Linux.

At Red Hat, you’ll work in an environment that welcomes diverse perspectives, values great ideas, and empowers individuals to contribute meaningfully. Freedom and courage are two of our core values - which means you’ll have the space to take risks, explore the unknown, and grow your strengths. But being a Red Hatter is not just about bravery; it’s also about commitment and follow-through.

Red Hat’s Intern Program is a collaborative effort between the Emerging Talent team and our intern managers. The program is designed to offer a meaningful and well-rounded experience - combining professional development, networking opportunities, social engagement, and impactful work. This is a paid, part-time internship based in the Brno office, with flexible working hours. The expected start date is February 2027.

What you will do:

  • Contribute to the Python ecosystem in the Fedora Linux operating system, create a new Python package for Fedora, help with updating existing packages and releasing new versions, and work with the Fedora infrastructure
  • Based on your interest you will: contribute to upstream Python projects, work with the upstream community, solve integration issues between Python packages and Linux, learn about Python testing frameworks, etc.
  • Contribute to the GDB project upstream through developing code in Python and/or C/C++, investigating and fixing issues, and working on new features
  • Use AI agents in your workflows and contribute to the team’s AI efforts
  • Work with experienced open source teams in a welcoming environment

What you will bring:

  • You must be enrolled in an accredited university program in the Czech Republic during the full duration of the internship and must be able to join us part-time from February 2027 till January 2028
  • Working knowledge of written and spoken English
  • Programming languages: experience in development in Python and basic experience with programming in C/C++
  • User experience with the Linux operating system and the git version control system
  • Interest in learning new technologies; problem-solving skills, sense of accountability

The following are considered a plus:

  • A basic knowledge of agentic AI
  • Previous code contributions to or participation in open source projects or code samples on GitHub

Due to the limited number of internship opportunities and the high volume of applications, we may not be able to speak with every candidate. To maximize your chances of moving forward in the process, please ensure your CV clearly outlines your education, relevant projects (link to your git.hub account), and extracurricular activities.

Please apply for a maximum of three internship roles that best match your interests and skills.
