Report directly to the Production Manager. May also receive work direction or assignments from the Superintendent or other management personnel as required by company needs.\nThis position is a 12-hour day shift from 5 PM - 5 AM on a rotational schedule.\nWhat you’ll do as a Production Supervisor\nOversee activities of Process and Drying Operators.\nEnsure operators follow proper procedures in the process and complete them as scheduled.\nEnsure operators complete control sheets for each process.\nReview control sheets for variances and approve or make necessary adjustments to Process and Drying.\nMaintain Supervisors logbook, communicate with other shift supervisors and document all problems or concerns.\nReport any special occurrences or incidents to next shift.\nEnforce safety, food safety, and company policies; give verbal and written warnings of procedural violations in collaboration with Superintendent.\nPerform minor machine and equipment maintenance.\nPerform startup and shutdown operations of the spray dryers.\nNotify maintenance department of equipment problems that cannot be solved independently by written work order requests.\nUtilize judgment to determine when to call upon maintenance personnel.\nNotify laboratory when tests are needed; deliver samples for testing.\nBe able to do simple calculations for titration’s, concentrations, and process needs.\nUse a computer for e-mail, Excel spreadsheets, and procedures in the production area.\nMay enter data into the computer systems and use SAP software\nEnforce the company’s GMP guidelines within the plant; this is to include production, packing, maintenance, or contract personnel.\nHold monthly GMP meetings and maintain a log to ensure that there are no problems and to answer any questions that anyone may have.\nMaintain all process logs daily.\nMust support and know the HACCP, Recall, GMP, and Safety programs of the plant.\nDo performance evaluations of the Process and Drying Operators.\nMaintain daily inventory for daily production needs with Supply Chain.\nResponsible and accountable for the safety of all assigned personnel.\nMay fill in for absent or vacationing operators of Process or Drying if required by the needs of the company.\nMust monitor drying activity for consistency.\nOther duties as assigned depending on operational needs.\nRequired qualifications:\nBachelor's or Associate's Degree in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Production Management required or a minimum of 2 to 3 years experience as a supervisor for a food-processing manufacturer.\nBasic math, chemistry, and microbiology knowledge is required to work under minimal supervision and assess situations, weigh alternatives and take decisive, prudent courses of action.\nBasic knowledge of equipment and production department sanitation.\nRequires ability to recognize and analyze production problems and identify possible causes.\nRequires the ability to supervise multiple people and prioritize various duties and to ensure production of consistent, quality product.\nAbility to prioritize and organize tasks and delegate to others while following through to ensure completion of assignments.\nSuperior communication and “customer” service skills are required in relationships with coworkers, management, and other departments within the company.\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to dry and dusty and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold or extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.\nAbility to be forklift certified required.\nPreferred qualifications:\nPaperwork demands attention to detail; computer proficiency preferred.\nAdditional safety and/or training experience helpful.\nMechanical aptitude and trouble-shooting skills.\nBasic knowledge of equipment and production department sanitations.\nAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.\nAbility to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.\n\nAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
