The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for leading all aspects of mechanical design on assigned projects, including requirements gathering, planning, conceptualizing, design development, analysis, modeling, verification, BOM management, drafting, and supporting designs through production.\nThe base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $125,000 per year plus a comprehensive compensation package. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.\nDuties and Responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Engineer:\nPresenting design plans to stakeholders, assist with project planning for budget and schedule\nContribute to development of engineering system design requirements in collaboration with Systems Engineers and other stakeholders, then drive development of subsystem requirements and interfaces\nConceptualize systems and develop system level layouts\nPerform, coordinate, and manage detail mechanical design of neutron generating and ion implantation capital equipment including:\n3D CAD models of designs\nAnalyze designs to prove design criteria are met e.g. FEA and CFD\nLead design reviews\nCreate & release detailed drawings \nDevelop Bills of Materials for systems and complex assemblies\nLead designs through the engineering change process \nCollaborate with vendors to ensure manufacturability of design\nAssist with assembly of prototype units\nCollaborate with test engineers to verify designs\nTrain & mentor other engineers, mechanical designers, & technicians as needed\nPrepare & deliver complex engineering-related presentations, both internally and externally\nCollaborate with the Engineering Manager & Design Team to develop & update department Standard Operating Procedures\nRequirements\nBS in Mechanical Engineering with substantial experience designing complex and/or precision mechanical systems or 10+ years equivalent work experience\nExperience in a production environment desired\nExperience with SolidWorks is preferred, but other 3D CAD packages will be considered\nWorking knowledge of engineering calculations and analysis methods, including but not limited to: FEA, CFD, kinematics, power, torque, structural, air & water flow/pressure calculations etc.\nWorking knowledge of tolerances and GD&T\nEffective problem solving, judgment, and independent thinking skills for troubleshooting, repair, & recognition of acceptable or unacceptable product quality\nExcellent technical writing and oral communication skills.\nAbility to quickly assess assigned task requirements, identify potential challenges, and communicate effectively to expedite the successful execution of assigned work.\nAbility to work independently and within team environments.\nAbility to travel occasionally is preferred \nWorking Conditions and Physical Effort:\nAbility to remain in a stationary position (e.g., standing or sitting) for extended periods.\nAbility to move within facility environments, including accessing testing areas and operating instrumentation.\nAbility to handle standard equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.\nWork may occasionally take place in controlled radiation areas under supervision and within regulatory exposure limits.\nUse of personal protective equipment (PPE).\nWork involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. \nWork environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. \nAlthough flexible work hours may be available, shift-work schedules may be required, and extended hours will sometimes be necessary to complete required work assignment.\nParticipation in the site emergency plan drills.\nEmployees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily.
