The company is profitable, the market it operates in is projected to grow 20 to 50 times over the next decade, and Redwood is the only company with the supply chain, the technology, and the operational scale to lead it.\nSenior Data Engineering Manager\nRedwood Materials is looking for a motivated and talented Manager of Data Engineering to lead a team of Data Engineers and Analysts. This role requires collaboration with other business units to identify needs, scope problems, and chart the long-term roadmap for the data platform and services. The Data team is responsible for managing data assets in a data lake architecture and overseeing the full data lifecycle from ingestion to processing to consumption. The ideal candidate is someone with experience managing technical teams, strong interpersonal skills, and technical skills in data engineering and creating/managing/supporting AWS infrastructure.\nResponsibilities will include:\nLead and grow a team of data engineers and analysts, including hiring, mentoring, career development, and performance management\nOwn the long-term roadmap and prioritization for the data platform, balancing infrastructure investment, new pipeline development, and analytics requests from across the business\nDrive cross-functional collaboration with teams across Redwood to discover needs, scope problems, and translate requirements into technical deliverables\nOversee the design and operation of data pipelines spanning streaming datasets, APIs, and various data stores, ensuring they meet reliability and quality standards\nOperationalize the team - set on-call expectations, triage incoming work, and ensure production data workloads have appropriate monitoring and incident response\nStay technically hands-on - review code, prototype solutions, and step into pipeline or infrastructure work alongside the team\nFoster a culture of technical excellence and execution, and champion the data team's work across the broader organization\nDesired Qualifications:\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience\nMinimum 5 years of hands-on experience building data solutions in a modern cloud environment, with at least 2 years managing technical teams\nStrong technical foundation in Python and SQL sufficient to review code, evaluate design decisions, and guide the team through hard technical problems (Trino experience a plus)\nFamiliarity with the modern data engineering stack - relational and non-relational data stores, ELT orchestration, transformation tooling, and data observability/catalog tooling\nExperience operating data platforms in AWS using infrastructure-as-code methodologies (CDK a plus); familiarity with containerized workloads in Kubernetes nice to have\nDemonstrated ability to manage production data workloads at scale (detecting and diagnosing issues, monitoring, incident response)\nStrong interpersonal and communication skills; able to translate between business stakeholders and technical teams, and to advocate for the team's roadmap with senior leadership\nA Passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!\nPhysical Requirements:\nConstantly perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.\nOccasionally stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.\nWorking Conditions:\nInfrequent night/weekend work if production systems are down and require immediate attention.\nThe position is full-time.
