This role supports production by ensuring reliable operation of PLCs, HMIs, robotics, vision systems, drives, and associated electrical controls. The Controls Engineer works closely with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to improve equipment performance, safety, quality, and operational efficiency.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nAutomation and Controls\nDesign, program, modify, and maintain PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.\nConfigure and troubleshoot industrial networks and communication protocols.\nDevelop and maintain electrical control schematics and documentation.\nSupport startup, commissioning, and validation of new manufacturing equipment.\nIntegrate robotics, vision systems, sensors, servos, and motion control systems into assembly processes.\nProduction Support\nProvide technical support for automated assembly equipment.\nDiagnose and resolve controls-related downtime issues.\nPerform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.\nSupport preventive and predictive maintenance activities.\nParticipate in plant shutdowns and equipment upgrades as needed.\nActively participate with the Process Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, and Leadership team on projects and continuous improvement.\nContinuous Improvement\nIdentify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and production efficiency.\nLead improvement projects to increase throughput and reduce scrap; not just controls, but plant wide.\nOptimize machine cycle times and equipment performance.\nLead and support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.\nSafety and Compliance\nEnsure control systems comply with company safety standards and applicable regulations.\nSupport machine risk assessments and safety system validation.\nMaintain compliance with electrical and automation standards.\nPromote a safe work environment and participate in safety initiatives.\nProject Management\nManage automation projects from concept through implementation.\nCoordinate activities with equipment vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders.\nDevelop project schedules, budgets, and technical specifications.\nTrack project progress and communicate status updates.\n*all other duties as assigned\nQualifications\nEducation\nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field.\nEquivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.\nExperience\n3+ years of controls engineering experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment preferred.\nExperience with automated production equipment and industrial control systems.\nExperience supporting high-volume manufacturing operations.\nTechnical Skills\nPLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or equivalent).\nHMI and SCADA development.\nIndustrial robotics programming and troubleshooting.\nMotion controls, servo systems, VFDs, and motor controls.\nIndustrial networking (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, DeviceNet, Modbus, etc.).\nElectrical schematic design and interpretation.\nRoot cause analysis and troubleshooting techniques.\nMicrosoft Office and engineering software applications.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience in automotive or large-scale assembly manufacturing.\nKnowledge of machine vision systems.\nExperience with MES integration and data collection systems.\nProject management experience.\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license or automation certifications are a plus.\nKey Competencies\nStrong analytical and troubleshooting skills.\nEffective communication and teamwork.\nProject management and organizational abilities.\nAbility to work under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.\nContinuous improvement mindset.\nAttention to detail and commitment to quality.\nWorking Conditions\nManufacturing plant environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and moving equipment.
