This role owns database administration, high availability and disaster recovery, and performance tuning for systems that power key business applications, and serves as a primary responder for database incidents as part of an on-call rotation. The Senior DBA also supports ETL and reporting through SSIS and SSRS, partners with business stakeholders to turn requirements into technical solutions, and mentors other team members while helping set database standards and best practices.\nDuties and responsibilities\nAdministration & OperationsManage backup, recovery, and high availability/disaster recovery strategies, including Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, and PostgreSQL streaming replication.\nHandle database security, including access control, permissions, and auditing.\nPlan and perform patching, upgrades, and capacity planning.\nRespond to SQL Server and PostgreSQL outages and incidents, including after-hours and weekends, as part of a weekly on-call rotation.\n\nPerformance & TroubleshootingLead performance tuning efforts using execution plans, indexing and statistics strategy, wait analysis, and query optimization.\nUse SQL Server tools such as SSMS, Extended Events, Query Store, DMVs, and PerfMon, as well as PostgreSQL tools such as EXPLAIN ANALYZE, pg_stat_statements, system catalogs, and VACUUM/autovacuum tuning to diagnose and resolve issues.\nPerform root-cause analysis, working backward from known issues to identify and permanently resolve underlying problems.\n\nDatabase Development & DesignDesign, write, and optimize database code across Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL, including stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, tables, indexes, partitions, and constraints.\nReview new and existing database code to ensure it meets company standards for readability, reliability, scalability, and performance.\nBuild new code and processes to support a growing business and evolving application needs.\n\nAutomation, ETL & ReportingDesign, develop, deploy, and monitor SSIS packages and SQL Agent jobs for ETL and operational automation.\nCreate, maintain, and deploy reports in SSRS.\n\nBusiness Partnership & LeadershipFacilitate requirements sessions with stakeholders and translate business needs and change requests into technical deliverables.\nMentor junior and mid-level DBAs and developers and help define database best practices and standards.\n\nMinimum Qualifications\n5+ years of experience in database administration and development in Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments, including installation, configuration, security, backup and recovery, and ongoing support.\nDeep expertise in performance tuning, including query analysis, execution plans, index strategy, statistics maintenance, and blocking, deadlock, and wait analysis.\nProven ability to troubleshoot and resolve database integrity, performance, replication, connectivity, and security issues in production environments.\nExperience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions for SQL Server (e.g., Always On Availability Groups, log shipping) and PostgreSQL (e.g., streaming replication, failover).\nHands-on experience with SSIS package development, deployment, and troubleshooting, and SSRS report design, deployment, and subscription setup.\nExperience automating operational tasks with scripting (e.g., PowerShell, T-SQL, Python, or Bash).\nExperience with source control (Git/GitHub) and the full software development lifecycle.Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write clear technical documentation and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.\nSelf-motivated and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize and deliver in a fast-paced environment.\nCollaborative approach, with experience mentoring or guiding other team members. \nPreferred Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.\nRelevant certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Database - Specialty, or PostgreSQL certification.Experience with SQL Server 2019 and newer, including migrating or upgrading from older versions.\nExperience with cloud database platforms, such as AWS RDS, Aurora, or SQL Server on EC2.\nExperience with database tooling such as Redgate or Idera, and work tracking tools such as Jira.Familiarity with C# or other application languages for supporting development teams.\n#LI-onsite\nIf you are a job applicant who resides in the state of California, please review our California Employee Privacy Policy at the following link: https://regionalfinance.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/UPDATED-Employee-Privacy-Policy-11.2022.pdf\nRegional is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, national origin, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, transgender status, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, uniform service, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law (“Protected Characteristics”).
