About the Position
The Tobacco Control Coordinator assists Reid Health achieve its mission to lead our communities to well-being, one person at a time by effectively developing, coordinating, implementing activities and outreach initiatives that align with the objectives of the Tobacco Prevention and Cessation (TPC) grant. The Tobacco Control Coordinator is primarily responsible for providing programmatic management, ensuring that all initiatives align with goals and workplan of the TPC. The coordinator will work to energize, enlarge and sustain coalition membership, promote TPC messaging and collaborate with coalition members, local government, and various sectors of the community to employ policy and promotion of the Indiana Tobacco Quitline initiatives. This position requires commitment to the overall improvement of the community health status by focusing efforts on projects and activities that reduce tobacco use in Wayne County.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Will be responsible for working in the community, available to travel in-county and to other locations in the state several times per year for training or meetings.
- Coordinator will submit periodic electronic reports as required and respond to local and state needs for information as directed.
- Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting public schools selected to conduct the Youth Tobacco Survey Fall 2026 and assist in proctoring.
- Media responsibilities include developing partnerships with local news venues and providing accurate local, state, national and international information on tobacco control to the news media as is necessary for education of the public on tobacco issues.
- Coordinator will recruit and organize both individuals and organizational representatives from the community to form a coalition representing diverse interests and backgrounds.
- The coordinator will lead the coalition to strategize action to reduce commercial tobacco use in the county through policy and programs.
- Coordinator will fully engage community and coalition members, including specific task force groups, in the business of commercial tobacco control. For this purpose, coordinator is an excellent written and oral communicator. The coordinator will be able to work with healthcare providers, businesses, and other organizations to educate them about evidence-based commercial tobacco control practices, assist them with policy development and implementation, and collaborate with them to increase referral and acceptance rates to the Indiana Tobacco Quitline.
- Coordinator will commit to study CDC’s Best Practices models in commercial tobacco control. Coordinator will use proven, evidence-based actions to reduce commercial tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke, and to prevent commercial tobacco use in the community.
- Coordinator will monitor completion of activities contracted in the written work plan submitted with this proposal by the coalition of Wayne County.

Education and Experience
Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent
Education Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field
Experience Required: Minimum of 2 years experience with a hospital, health agency, or community service organization with demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Knowledge of community resources and social support services available to individuals and families.
Experience Preferred: Knowledge and experience in the areas of community health, social services, healthcare setting.

- Leadership skills especially in the area of coalition building.
- Community organizing skills; experience recruiting and organizing volunteers.
- Ability to develop positive working relationships with a wide range of constituencies.
- Excellent written and oral command of the English language, including proficiency in public speaking.
- Sensitivity to and ability to engage and motivate people from varying cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Computer literacy required in Microsoft Office applications including, Excel, Word, Teams, and Power Point. Experience with the applications of Smartsheet and Zoom.
- Ability to facilitate, convene and organize groups of people, both community and staff to reach a defined objective.
- Well organized, able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously, and independently and creatively.
- Self-directed and self-motivated.

- High level proficiency utilizing technology for in person as well as virtual presentations and interactive community meetings.

Work Environment
The work environment for this department can be best described as a welcoming atmosphere filled with encouragement. The work of the coordinator takes place in a variety of settings. Some work will be done in the office in the form of preparing and organizing initiatives as well as reporting.
