The disciplines and expertise needed to build devices that positively impact human lives are diverse, and as such, Device has rapidly become established for very impactful research across applied physics, computer science, chemistry, biology, engineering, and more as it applies to driving integrated, purpose-driven applications.\nWe are now recruiting an Editor in Chief to lead Device through its next chapter. The role provides a unique opportunity to continue to develop and shape the journal, leading the editorial team according to their creative vision. As a respected member of the research community in the journal's scope, the Editor-in-Chief will ensure Device continues to develop as a very influential journal grounded in a strong understanding of the needs of the global authors, readers, and reviewers that the journal serves.\nThis is a full-time editorial position. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. There are strong advantages in candidates willing and able to be based in proximity to one our offices (in Boston MA, New York or Philadelphia USA; London or Oxford UK; Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Munich, Germany; Beijing, Shanghai or Shenzhen, China); we are able to offer some flexibility in location. If hired in the UK, this role is included in the pay bargaining unit represented by the National Union of Journalists (NUJ).\nPlease submit a cover letter with your application to be considered for the role.\nResponsibilities\nContinuing the shape the aims, scope, priorities and formats for the journal to ensure it remains impactful, topical, cohesive and of broad appeal.\nHaving managerial responsibilities for the in-house editorial team, and coordinating the rigorous evaluation of submissions to ensure the quality and value of the journal as a forum for the best research, analysis and ideas.\nDrawing on an impressive global network of leading researchers to attract world-leading article submissions.\nTraveling extensively to engage with the global research community and build networks, including through attending conferences and visiting research institutes.\nDeveloping and fostering partnerships with other editorial teams at Cell Press, as well as members of our Operations, Marketing and Press teams. Contributing to the overall publishing strategy of Cell Press.\nRequirements\nHave proven research expertise and a broad interest in research across the scope of Device.\nHave a deep network of international researchers within the scope of the journal, paired with a proven ability to engage with and influence.\nAble to think conceptually and critically about a wide range of scientific issues.\nHave proven organizational, project management, leadership, and teamwork skills.\nDisplay excellent written and oral communication skills.\nExtensive Editorial experience is valued.
