It operates four divisions: Elsevier in scientific and medical research, risk analytics covering insurance and financial crime screening, legal information through LexisNexis, and the exhibitions business RX. Headquartered in London and listed in London, Amsterdam and New York, it derives the large majority of revenue from electronic products and analytics rather than print.

Payer Account Executive, Patient Engagement and Care Planning

About our Team

Clinical Solutions is a technology & information solutions business focused on helping doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals. Our product portfolio spans market-leading solutions in Clinical Reference, Advanced Clinical Decision Support, Nursing, Patient Engagement and Precision Medicine. Our products aim to optimize care delivery, patient experience, and financial outcomes.

About the Role

We're looking for a highly motivated self-starter to grow Elsevier's Patient Engagement and Care Plans portfolio within the payer market. Patient Engagement gives health plan members tools to take an active role in their own care, and it delivers outcomes that matter directly to payers focused on cost and quality. In this role, you'll own a payer-focused book of business and build strategies that address both the immediate and long-term needs of health plans, insurers, and related organizations. We want a proactive hunter, someone who gets equally energized by finding new opportunities and closing them.

Responsibilities

  • New account growth: Identify and close new business within targeted health plans and payer organizations, expanding the Patient Engagement and Care Plans portfolio across your territory.
  • Cross-team collaboration: Partner with other Clinical Solutions sales teams to build proposals that span the broader portfolio, strengthening the value we bring to payer clients.
  • Territory strategy: Build and execute a penetration plan for your assigned payer accounts, prioritizing the opportunities with the greatest impact.
  • Contract negotiation: Lead negotiations and close contracts for new sales, making sure terms reflect the value patients and payers gain from the solution.
  • Pipeline development: Prospect consistently to build a strong opportunity pipeline, and forecast new business with accuracy.
  • Executive engagement: Build relationships with C-suite payer executives, leading strategic discussions that connect our solutions to their financial and clinical priorities.
  • Stakeholder communication: Own deal status updates across internal teams, including Commercial, Clinical Executive, and Account Management, to keep the sales process moving.
  • Industry education: Educate internal leadership and external stakeholders on payer market trends, sharpening our value-based selling approach.

Requirements

  • Sales track record: Bring a proven history of new business development in healthcare, with strong results selling to payer organizations, health plans, or similar insurance entities.
  • EHR and workflow knowledge: Understand Electronic Health Record systems and clinical workflows well enough to speak credibly with both business and technical stakeholders.
  • Executive presence: Engage C-suite healthcare and payer executives, leading strategic discussions that build lasting partnerships.
  • Consultative selling: Apply a consultative approach to uncover customer problems and shape solutions that solve them.
  • Complex B2B experience: Sell technology solutions in a B2B healthcare environment involving multiple decision makers and influencers.
  • AI fluency: Use generative AI tools hands-on to improve workflows, analyze information, and drive business impact.
  • Market knowledge: Know the regional and national payer landscape, including health plans, collaboration networks, and key industry leaders.
  • Regulatory awareness: Understand the healthcare regulatory environment and how it shapes payer decision-making.
  • Analytical and communication skills: Combine strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with excellent verbal and written communication.
