Through innovation in editorial workflows and publishing technology, we help global research communities discover, evaluate, and disseminate knowledge that advances science and improves lives.\nAbout the Role\nAs Publishing Director: Civil & Mechanical Engineering, you will lead, manage and develop a team of Publishers and develop an international journal portfolio focused on Engineering and related subject areas. You’ll work across the field of Engineering and across multiple geographies to grow and develop a journal portfolio and team against key business metrics. You'll launch and participate in strategic initiatives across the organization.\nResponsibilities\nLeading PMG (Product Market Group)-level strategic planning and target-setting process for Civil & Mechanical Engineering, working with strategy, marketing, society, finance, and senior management teams.\nTaking ownership of the overall PMG strategy for Civil & Mechanical Engineering and managing delivery. Working with functions or central initiatives that have overarching PMG relevance.\nUnderstanding the research environment, maintaining a network, and participating in complex industry discussions with high level industry stakeholders.\nGuiding and coaching team members in external discussions and on building their networks, connecting people as relevant. Supporting Publishers to engage with internal stakeholders and centres of expertise.\nRecognizing key external customer trends and work with the team to translate them and drive innovation and business development.\nProviding leadership, guidance and mentoring to Publishers. Including how to approach journal development, planning, and managing the performance of Editors/Editorial Boards; help set priorities.\nDriving and leading key cross-functional strategic initiatives.\nHelping to structurally resolve publishing-wide issues in collaboration with the Publishing Director peer group and other colleagues and stakeholders.\n Requirements\nHave Senior level, relevant publishing experience. (Ideally gained in a variety of subject fields/with an international perspective). Coupled with deep understanding of journal development.\nDisplay keen awareness and understanding of the global Publishing industry (and related industry/research/policy drivers).\nHave demonstrated ability to build a network of high-level contacts within the scientific community. Translating customer needs to data-driven strategy.\nPossess a track record of building productive internal relationships. Including leading/collaborating with project teams, creating visibility for your team, and being an acknowledged expert offering support to others.\nExperience in leading and developing a successful team in multiple/international locations. This includes the following: Hiring, developing, and retaining talented colleagues. Setting appropriate goals and fostering innovation. Supporting strategic planning; helping navigate challenges in implementation. Assigning responsibilities and involving direct reports in developing and implementing budgets and plans, managing financial performance, and achieving annual targets.\nAble to maintain an environment of professionalism, enthusiasm, and collaboration with all team members. Cultivating psychologically appropriate spaces and championing diversity among the team.\nExcel in strategy and innovation.
