Working collaboratively with software engineering, SRE, networking, and infrastructure teams, we help modernize database environments, automate operational processes, and enable resilient cloud-native solutions.\nThe team combines deep database expertise with infrastructure automation and modern software development practices to support mission-critical platforms and continuously improve reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.\nAbout the Role\nAs a Database Engineer (DBA), you will design, build, automate, and operate mission-critical database platforms in a cloud-first environment. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who combines deep database expertise with cloud-native architecture, infrastructure automation, and software development practices to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available platforms.\nYou will work closely with software engineering, SRE, networking, and infrastructure teams to modernize database environments, improve operational efficiency, and support resilient cloud-native solutions.\nResponsibilities\nDesign, administer, and optimize enterprise MySQL database platforms, including secure, scalable, and highly available architectures.\nEngineer and maintain replication, backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions, including regular recovery testing.\nDevelop production-quality code and automation for database provisioning, deployments, upgrades, patching, maintenance, and monitoring.\nBuild and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, with changes delivered through GitHub and GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines.\nDefine and track SLOs and implement monitoring, alerting, and dashboards to provide visibility into database health and performance.\nLead production incident response, root-cause analysis, and blameless postmortems while implementing preventative solutions and self-service automation.\nUse GitHub Copilot CLI, Copilot app, and Copilot in VS Code to support coding, troubleshooting, testing, and documentation, while reviewing and validating AI-generated output.\nTroubleshoot complex issues across databases, Linux, Kubernetes, networking, storage, and cloud infrastructure, while partnering with application teams on schema design, query performance, capacity planning, and safe database changes.\nLead database modernization initiatives, including migrations from traditional platforms to cloud-native architectures and managed services.\nRequirements\nExpert knowledge of MySQL administration, replication, backup and recovery, high availability, and performance tuning.\nStrong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills across databases, infrastructure, networking, and cloud environments.\nProven ability to develop, test, and maintain production-quality code and automation using Python, Go, Java, C#, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages.\nHands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code, along with Git workflows, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.\nExperience managing databases in cloud environments; Microsoft Azure experience is preferred.\nWorking knowledge of SRE practices, including SLOs, observability, incident management, postmortems, and reducing manual operational work through automation.\nHands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot CLI, Copilot app, or Copilot in VS Code, including the ability to review and validate AI-generated output.\nStrong networking fundamentals, including DNS, TCP/IP, load balancing, firewalls, SSL/TLS, and virtual networking.\nExperience supporting databases on VMs or Kubernetes and/or building AI-assisted or agent-driven automation workflows is preferred.\n\nU.S. National Base Pay Range: $71,600 - $119,400. Geographic differentials may apply in some locations to better reflect local market rates.\n\nBase Pay Range for CO is $71,600 - $119,400. Base Pay Range for IL is $75,200 - $125,500.
