In this role, you'll help ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of the systems that power Elsevier's products, working closely with software engineers, platform teams, and other systems engineers. This is an entry-to-mid-level position, ideal for engineers early in their career who want to grow their skills in cloud infrastructure, automation, and operational excellence.\nResponsibilities\nMonitor, maintain, and improve the reliability, availability, and performance of production systems running on AWS\nRespond to incidents and help drive root cause analysis and postmortems\nBuild and maintain automation for deployment, monitoring, and infrastructure management (Infrastructure as Code)\nCollaborate with development teams to improve system observability (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting)\nContribute to capacity planning, performance tuning, and cost optimization efforts\nWrite and maintain runbooks, documentation, and operational procedures\nSupport CI/CD pipelines and help improve deployment safety and velocity\nRequirements\n1-3 years of experience in a Systems Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or similar role\nHands-on experience with AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudWatch, IAM)\nFamiliarity with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)\nWorking knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)\nScripting/programming experience in one or more languages (Python, Go, Bash, etc.)\nUnderstanding of monitoring/observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, CloudWatch)\nFamiliarity with CI/CD tools and practices (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, etc.)\nExperience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet)\nExposure to SLO/SLI/error budget frameworks\nWork in a Way That Works for You\nWe promote a healthy work/life balance across the organisation.
