The successful candidate will work alongside experienced Field Applications Engineers and Power Systems Engineers to support customer designs, perform validation and characterization of power solutions, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and assist customers in deploying industry-leading power management technologies.\nThe role is based in San Jose, CA and will support customers in the Bay area while utilizing Renesas' engineering laboratory in San Jose for hands-on validation, testing, and debug activities.\nPrimary Responsibilities\nWork under the guidance of senior FAEs to support strategic customer programs from concept through production.\n\nAssist with validation, characterization, and optimization of Renesas digital multiphase power solutions used in AI, cloud, server, and networking systems.\n\nPerform hands-on laboratory testing including:\n\nEfficiency characterization\n\nLoad transient testing\n\nPower sequencing validation\n\nTelemetry verification\n\nProtection features validation\n\nFault analysis and root cause investigation\n\nPower rail characterization and measurement\n\nSupport customer board bring-up, power supply debug, and system-level validation activities.\n\nParticipate in schematic reviews, component selection, and PCB layout reviews for high-current power delivery systems.\n\nDevelop technical reports, characterization summaries, validation documentation, and customer-facing presentations.\n\nLearn and utilize industry-standard test equipment including oscilloscopes, electronic loads, network analyzers, power analyzers, and source measure instruments.\n\nAssist in the development of automated validation methodologies and data analysis workflows.\n\nWork closely with Product Marketing, Applications Engineering, Product Line Management, and Sales teams to support customer engagements and design win activities.\n\nGain exposure to customer-facing technical discussions and eventually develop the ability to independently support customer design activities.\n\n Required:\nBS or MS in Electrical Engineering with Power Electronics specialization.\n\nRecent graduate or expected graduation within the current academic year.\n\nStrong academic background in: Power Electronics, Analog Circuit Design, Control Systems, Electronic Circuits, Embedded Systems\n\nFundamental understanding of: DC-DC converters, Switching power supplies, Feedback control loops, Analog and mixed-signal circuits, Circuit analysis techniques.\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills.\n\nDemonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems in a team environment.\n\nWillingness to travel periodically to customer sites and work in a laboratory environment.\n\nMust be located in, or willing to relocate to, the San Jose, CA area.\n\nPreferred:\nInternship, co-op, undergraduate research, or industry experience in: Power electronics, Power supply design, Hardware engineering, Validation engineering, Systems engineering, Semiconductor applications engineering.\n\nExperience designing, building, or debugging switching power supplies.\n\nExperience with simulation tools such as: LTspice, PSpice, SIMPLIS, MATLAB/Simulink, Cadence extraction tools.\n\nExperience with laboratory equipment including: Oscilloscopes, Electronic loads, Power supplies, Spectrum analyzers, Digital multimeters.\n\nExperience with scripting or automation using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.\n\nDesign project, thesis, or research related to: Power conversion, Voltage regulator design, Battery management systems, Motor control, Power integrity, Renewable energy systems.\n\nFamiliarity with PCB design, layout considerations, and power delivery networks.\n\nWhat Will Make You Successful\nPassion for power electronics and technology.\n\nStrong analytical and troubleshooting skills.\n\nAbility to learn quickly in a fast-paced customer-facing environment.\n\nHands-on mindset with enthusiasm for laboratory work and debugging.\n\nStrong ownership and follow-through on technical issues.\n\nDesire to grow into a customer-facing technical leadership role supporting some of the industry's largest AI and datacenter customers.\n\n Pay Transparency (approved text)\nThe expected annual pay range for this position is $75,000-$89,500. This position is also eligible for bonus opportunities.
