You'll contribute in the architecture and development of the platform software - drivers, middleware, and RTOS - that runs on Renesas devices.\nResponsibilities\nOwn the software architecture for embedded platform components - define interfaces, layering, and portability strategy across Renesas device families, and make the build-vs-adopt and design trade-off calls\nLead the technical execution of embedded software projects end to end: break down scope, identify risk early, resolve cross-team dependencies, and keep delivery on track against schedule and quality targets\nProvide technical leadership across the team - set coding, review, and testing standards\nDesign, develop, and maintain platform software hands-on, including low-level drivers, middleware, and RTOS integration\nOwn the quality of delivered software, from architecture and design review through verification and release\nPlan and estimate work for yourself and the project team, manage competing priorities across parallel efforts, and report status and risk to project and engineering leadership\nMentor and grow senior and junior engineers through design review, code review, and direct technical coaching\nWork closely with hardware, silicon, applications, and product teams, and represent the team's technical position to internal stakeholders and customers\n Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with 10+ years of embedded software development experience in consumer electronics, automotive, medical, or a similar domain\nProven track record architecting embedded software platforms that shipped in volume, including ownership of designs across multiple product generations\nExpert C programming skills and deep experience designing software for deeply embedded, resource-constrained platforms\nDeep knowledge of 8/16/32-bit MCU architectures, including ARM Cortex-M, and of the hardware/software boundary: memory maps, interrupt and DMA architecture, clocking, and low-power design\nProficient with CMake and embedded cross-compilation toolchains (GCC, LLVM/Clang, or vendor compilers), and with Docker for reproducible build and test environments\nStrong experience with CI/CD and test automation for embedded targets, including hardware-in-the-loop testing\nExpert across the full software engineering lifecycle, including verification of deliverables against specifications and requirements\nFluent debugging with lab equipment and tooling: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, multimeters, and JTAG/SWD debuggers\nDemonstrated ability to lead technical work across a team - driving decisions to closure, aligning stakeholders, and delivering to committed dates\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-specialist and customer audiences\nNice to have\nMultiple RTOS and OS environments - Zephyr, FreeRTOS, embedded Linux - and experience porting or abstracting across them\nRenesas FSP (Flexible Software Package) or comparable vendor HAL/driver frameworks\nHard real-time and safety-critical software design - schedulability, latency and jitter analysis, deterministic behavior under load\nSecurity architecture: secure boot, key storage, ARM TrustZone, cryptographic accelerators\nConnectivity protocols e.g. Bluetooth Low Energy stacks\nSustained contributions to open-source projects, ideally as a maintainer or reviewer\nAI-assisted development experience: coding agents, agentic workflows, MCP\n Renesas is an embedded semiconductor solution provider driven by its Purpose, To Make Our Lives Easier.
