RenewCO2 converts captured CO₂ into industrial chemicals - including potassium formate and formic acid - using electrochemical reduction. We operate a pilot-scale facility housing electrolyzer systems, analytical instrumentation, and supporting process equipment. The work is hands-on and the environment is resource-constrained: people here fix things, source things, and keep things running.

The role

The Facilities Manager owns the physical plant: the building, its systems, and the equipment our engineers and scientists depend on. You will be the first call when a chiller trips, a contractor needs escorting, or a mass flow controller needs to go out for service. This is a single-owner role at a small company, so the scope runs from strategic (preventive maintenance planning, vendor selection) to immediate (a leak at 7 a.m.).

Responsibilities

• Building operations - Manage day-to-day upkeep of lab, pilot, and office space: lighting, plumbing, electrical, doors and access control, general repairs, space planning, and housekeeping standards.
• HVAC and building systems - Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC, exhaust and ventilation systems, compressed air, process chilled water, and DI water systems. Monitor and operate the building management system (BMS), adjusting setpoints, schedules, and alarms, and responding to faults. Track filter changes, belt wear, and system performance; coordinate service before failures become downtime.
• Scientific and process equipment - Maintain the maintenance and calibration schedule for lab and pilot equipment (e.g., potentiostats, chromatographs, pumps, mass flow controllers, balances, fume hoods, gas delivery systems). Perform routine first-line maintenance and troubleshooting; manage external service contracts for what you can’t.
• Contractor management - Scope work, solicit and compare quotes, schedule and supervise trades (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, general construction), verify work quality, and manage contractor access and site safety compliance.
• Compliance and safety support - Support lab safety programs: chemical storage and segregation, gas cylinder handling and storage, eyewash and safety shower inspection, fire extinguisher and life-safety checks, waste pickup coordination, and inspection readiness.
• Vendors, inventory, and records - Maintain service agreements, spare-parts and consumables inventory, equipment asset records, maintenance logs, and manuals. Track facilities spend against budget.
• Capital and buildout projects - Support equipment installations, utility tie-ins, and lab or pilot area reconfigurations, working alongside engineering staff.

Required Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in facilities, building maintenance, lab operations, or industrial/plant maintenance
• Working knowledge of HVAC and building mechanical systems, with demonstrated hands-on troubleshooting ability
• Familiarity with plumbing and low-voltage electrical work (controls wiring, sensors, lighting controls, access control, network and device cabling)
• Willingness and aptitude to learn new building systems on the job - including the building management system (BMS/BAS), gas detection and alarm systems, and process utility controls. We do not expect you to arrive knowing all of them; we expect you to pick them up.
• Experience coordinating and supervising outside contractors and service vendors
• Comfort with basic hand and power tools and mechanical repair
• Self-motivated - you identify what needs doing and act on it without being assigned the task
• Strong organizational habits - you can build and hold a maintenance schedule without being reminded
• Ability to work independently, prioritize competing requests, and respond to occasional after-hours or weekend issues
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work on ladders, and work in an active laboratory and pilot plant environment with chemicals, compressed gases, and high-voltage equipment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a laboratory, cleanroom, chemical plant, or pilot-scale manufacturing environment
• Familiarity with scientific instrumentation
• Prior experience operating or configuring a BMS/BAS platform (Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Automated Logic, or similar)
• Exposure to OSHA, EPA, or local fire-code compliance in a lab or industrial setting
• Trade or safety certification is a plus but not required - e.g., HVAC (EPA 608), journeyman or apprentice electrical or plumbing credentials, OSHA 10/30, or NFPA 70E
• Experience with CMMS or maintenance tracking software
