This will include providing Design for Manufacture (DFM) input, developing manufacturing strategies and processes, supporting prototype and pre-production builds, and ensuring products are ready for repeatable manufacture.\nThe successful candidate will also drive improvements in quality, product cost, process capability, efficiency, lead time and waste reduction, while ensuring appropriate manufacturing documentation, process controls and technical knowledge are in place before handover to Production.\nThe vacancy is within the New Mills New Products Engineering milling team and is for a double-day shift pattern (Week 1: Monday to Thursday 6am - 2pm, Friday 6am - 12:12pm, Week 2: Monday to Thursday 1pm - 9pm, Friday 12:12pm - 6:24pm)\nResponsibilities\nManufacturing engineering support throughout the New Product Introduction process, from early DFM through to production handover.\nIntroduction and development of robust manufacturing processes and associated production documentation.\nDevelopment of manufacturing strategies to achieve required quality, cost, capability, lead time and capacity.\nSupport of prototype and pre-production builds, including process proving and optimisation.\nInvestigation of manufacturing problems and root cause analysis, with implementation of robust corrective actions.\nAnalysis of process performance data to identify and deliver continuous improvement activities.\nWork closely with Design, Production, Quality and supporting functions to ensure new products are ready for repeatable manufacture.\nSupport the effective handover of new products and manufacturing processes into Production.\nKey requirements\nDegree level education in a relevant technical discipline such as, Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering or Manufacturing Systems. Or a HNC/HND level education with significant experience in a related engineering field.\nKnowledge of CNC manufacturing and CAD/CAM systems.\nGood communication and PC skills and the ability to work with minimal support.\nExperience working with fine tolerances and the ability to work on precision equipment.\nThe ability to understand technical drawings and geometric tolerances.\nA focused approach to waste reduction and product / process cost reduction.\nDesirable requirements\nProven success in the support and improving of technically challenging, high precision engineering processes.\nSuccessful application of structured problem solving and statistical analysis techniques.\nA good understanding of production metrics such as, productivity, efficiency, waste and cost of quality.\nMechanical design awareness including tooling, jigs, fixtures and process models.\nUnderstanding of metrology, measurement techniques and calibration.\nPrevious experience in macro programming.\nPerson specification\nThe successful applicant will have a strong technical background with a hands-on approach and be able to demonstrate success in the support and development of complex, technically challenging processes.
