This role focuses on the quality control of customs entries, tariff classifications, duty and VAT calculations, refund claims, and supporting customs documentation, ensuring full adherence to SARS requirements, the Customs & Excise Act, VAT legislation, and internal company procedures.\n\nThe Customs QC Controller validates submissions prior to finalisation, identifies and corrects discrepancies, supports the resolution of customs-related queries and adjustments, and maintains high standards of accuracy, compliance, and service delivery. The role works closely with customs clearing teams, operational departments, and relevant stakeholders to support efficient customs processing, minimise risk, and uphold operational excellence across all customs activities.\n\nDuties & Responsibilities\nCustomer Compliance\n\n• Ensure all customs clearing activities comply with the Customs & Excise Act, VAT Act, SARS requirements, and applicable legislation.\n\n• Verify that all clearing instructions, supporting documentation, and declarations are accurate and compliant before submission.\n\n• Ensure all required certificates, permits, and supporting documents are obtained prior to submission.\n\n• Identify and escalate risks relating to valuation, tariff classification, origin, and documentation discrepancies.\n\n• Maintain compliance with company policies, internal controls, and audit standards.\n\nCustoms Procedures and Entry quality control\n\n• Review and quality check customs entries across all transport modes.\n\n• Validate tariff classifications, customs values, rebate items, and duty/VAT calculations.\n\n• Ensure accurate and timeous submission of customs entries via EDI.\n\n• Monitor and maintain accurate client product libraries.\n\n• Identify and correct draft entry errors before submission.\n\n• Maintain logs of recurring processing or registration errors\n\nAdjustments, Refunds and Provisional payments\n\n• Review and monitor refund claims, provisional payments, and customs adjustments.\n\n• Conduct assessments relating to DA70 provisional payments and liquidations.\n\n• Ensure supporting documentation for claims and adjustments is complete and compliant.\n\n• Minimise the occurrence of Vouchers of Correction (VOCs).\n\n• Identify trends leading to adjustments and implement preventative actions.\n\nQuality Management and Risk Control\n\n• Conduct quality checks on customs entries and supporting documentation.\n\n• Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and company SOPs.\n\n• Identify operational risks, control weaknesses, and process gaps.\n\n• Escalate non-conformances and repeated errors with corrective action recommendations.\n\n• Support continuous improvement initiatives\n\nCustomer and Operational Support\n\n• Provide customs guidance and support to internal teams and stakeholders.\n\n• Resolve customs queries and technical issues efficiently.\n\n• Liaise with clients, service providers, and authorities regarding outstanding documentation and customs matters.\n\n• Maintain effective stakeholder relationships to support service delivery\n\nTechnical guidance and knowledge sharing\n\n• Provide guidance to junior customs staff on tariff classifications, valuations, and compliance requirements.\n\n• Share best practices to improve processing quality and reduce errors.\n\n• Support training and development initiatives within the customs team.\n\n• Promote a culture of accountability, learning, and accuracy\n\nReporting and Administrative Control\n\n• Maintain accurate records, logs, and audit trails of checks, discrepancies, and adjustments.\n\n• Prepare and submit periodic reports on quality trends, compliance matters, and operational risks.\n\n• Ensure all customs documentation is properly filed and audit ready.\n\n• Support internal and external audit preparation requirements\n\nAdhoc and specialised functions\n\n • Assist with ITAC permits, deferment calculations, and trade-related documentation.\n\n• Provide support on specialised customs matters and technical queries.\n\n• Attend meetings with SARS, clients, and stakeholders where required.\n\n• Perform additional compliance, quality control, reporting, and project-related duties as required.\n\nDesired Experience & Qualification\nMatric\n\nAccounting/Compliance/Legal experience\n\nLogistics/export/import expierence\n\n2-5 Years experience in similar role and industry\n\nAccuracy\n\nAttention to
