We are looking to build our workforce with a staff who share this vision and want to instill passion in learning emphasizing student strengths and gifts for all learners: all abilities, all ethnicities and cultural identities, LGBTQ+ youth, and multilingual learners.\nBASIC FUNCTION:\nUnder the direction of the Transportation Manager, operate a vehicle over designated routes, and on an “as-needed” basis, in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students; provide safe and efficient transportation for District students to and from school, and school-related activities; perform daily inspections and maintenance of vehicle, assist in the loading and unloading of special needs students as necessary.\nREPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:\nDrive a vehicle, other than a school bus, over designated routes in accordance with specified time schedules and on an as-needed basis, and in accordance with regulations and laws related to pupil transportation in California following specific route and/or specific individualized student pick-up and drop-off instructions.\nPick up and discharge students at established bus stop locations, or residence or care giver locations as directed; report incidents which affect the safety of students.\nMaintain vehicle in a safe operating condition through prescribed daily vehicle inspections and driver maintenance including cleaning windows, mirrors, and vehicle interior; check and maintain fuel, oil and water levels; check brakes, brake lights and doors; report mechanical defects and malfunctions to appropriate personnel.\nMaintain order and discipline among students in vehicle following District policies and procedures regarding discipline of students, and contact with school officials, parents and the public; interact with parents regarding questions, concerns, disputes.\nInstruct students on safety regulations and policies related to passenger conduct; evacuate vehicle in safe and timely manner as needed; conduct periodic evacuations drills as required by law.\nMaintain records concerning vehicle maintenance, miles driven, and number of students transported, and other related matters; prepare student conduct , incident and accident reports.\nAttend various meetings related to such issues as safety, first aid, and vehicle codes; attend driver training programs to maintain current knowledge of California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code as it applies to the operation of pupil transportation vehicles.\nAssist in modifying routes as needed due to the addition or deletion of passengers.\nOperate a district vehicle to pick-up and deliver supplies and materials as assigned.\nUtilize two-way radio for vehicle-to-dispatch, and vehicle-to-vehicle communication.\nPerform first aid according to established guidelines and procedures.\nPerform related duties as assigned.\nKNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:\nKNOWLEDGE OF:\nSafe driving practices.\nProvision of the California State Motor Vehicle Code and Education Code applicable\nto the operation of vehicles transporting students.\nFirst aid practices\nInterpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.\nABILITY TO:\nOperate a vehicle over designated routes in accordance with time scheduled, picking\nup and discharging students, or on an as-need basis.\nMaintain order and discipline among students while driving a vehicle.\nMaintain assigned vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition.\nRecognize equipment malfunctions and take appropriate action.\nLearn designated routes including school site, drop-off locations and traffic hazards.\nMaintain routine records.\nEstablish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.\nUnderstand and follow oral and written directions.\nMeet schedules and time lines.\nWork independently with little direction.\nCommunicate effectively both orally and in writing.\nLearn, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.\nObserve legal and defensive driving practices.\nAssist in loading special needs students as necessary.\nLift objects weighing up to 40 pounds.\nLICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:\nValid California Driver’s license, insurable by the District liability insurance carrier, successful completion of the First Aid examination within the first six months of employment. Successful completion of District School Bus Driver Training Program, and obtain Class B California driver’s license, a School Bus Driver’s Certificated issued by the California Highway Patrol, within the first six (6) months of employment.\n This position is classified as Safety-Sensitive.
