The role also contributes to special projects, studio setup, and events that advance the School’s mission. The Lab Technician is part of a collaborative team of technical staff and reports directly to the Director of Labs.\nEssential Functions:\n1. (40%)\nOversee use of the School of Architecture and Design’s labs to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment. Provide continued support for students and faculty working on design prototyping and applied research. Intervene when unsafe practices are observed and report incidents as required.\n2. (20%)\nProvide students, staff, and faculty with instruction on equipment and fabrication methods.\n3. (30%)\nMaintain lab equipment, including calibration, preventative maintenance, and repairs. Ensure organization, cleanliness, and general upkeep of lab spaces.\n4. (10%)\nAssist with School of Architecture and Design special projects, including lab development initiatives, studio setup, and preparation for events such as open houses, exhibitions, and end-of-semester reviews.\nMinimum Qualifications:\nGeneral\nExcellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.\n\nDemonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team.\n\nDemonstrated commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment.\n\nTechnical\nPractical experience with:\nphysical model-making and rapid prototyping using both digital and traditional fabrication tools and methods.\n\nfoundational woodworking.\n\nadditive manufacturing technologies [e.g. FDM, SLA, and LDM] and associated equipment operation.\n\n Preferred Qualifications:\nTechnical\nPractical experience with:\nCAD/CAM workflows and CNC equipment operation.\n\nmaintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of CNC equipment.\n\nmaintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of additive manufacturing equipment.\n\nstudio photography.\n\noperating and programming industrial robots.\n\nXR (extended reality) technologies as they relate to design development and visualization.\n\nphysical computing.\n\nPosition Details:\nThe job grade for this position is Grade 4 (N).\nThe expected hourly rate for this position is between $27.18- $32.82 which reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role.\nAt this time, the university is unable to sponsor applicants for H-1B visas.\nCompensation and Benefits\nWentworth Institute of Technology is committed to fair, transparent, and legally compliant compensation practices.
