Upon successful completion of this training and certification, the trainee will progress to the level of Marine Pilot with unrestricted pilotage responsibilities in accordance with the enterprise licenses for the regions ports.\nConduct safe and efficient port pilotage as required by the roster.\nPerform the duties of a pilot to meet the operational demands during periods of pilot shortage as requested by the Manager Pilot subject to fatigue.\nLiaise with the Manager Pilot on pilotage issues to establish effective feedback and consultation processes within the Pilots business unit to deliver a safe, effective and efficient pilotage service.\nUndertake pilot and safety training to maintain Pilot license, Area endorsements and other relevant Pilotage skills as required by the Regulator and the Port of Townsville Limited (the Port). \nLiaise with ships' masters, operators, agents, port authorities, regulatory bodies and providers of marine safety services concerning shipping in the regions ports.\nUtilise computer technology as it relates to the effective delivery of pilotage services.\nComplete appropriate documentation and logs in a timely and approved manner.\nProvide training to other pilots and masters seeking exemption as required.\nParticipate in port emergency responses and associated training as directed to assist with successful restoration of the Port back to an operating capacity in the event of an emergency.\nContribute to the Port’s strategic plans including the Statement of Corporate Intent, Corporate Plan and Port Vision 2050.\nEnsure appropriate health and safety, environmental management, quality, and information security practices are implemented for all works to comply with the Port’s policies and relevant legislation. \nComply with all relevant legislation, codes of practice and standards.\nPromote a Zero Harm culture and continual improvement in our Health and Safety management and performance.\nAny other duties commensurate with level and accountabilities, or as directed by leadership, or other Senior Pilots involved in training supervision.\n Essential criteria\nMandatory\nHolder of, or the ability to acquire, a current and valid Queensland pilot license and area endorsements for the region\nHolder of a valid Master Class 1 Certificate, (Including Manila STCW 2010 Amendments) issued or recognized by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).\nHolder of a valid AMSA certificate of medical fitness throughout the tenure as a marine pilot.\nThe incumbent must be a permanent Australian resident and must be willing to reside at the designated work location.\nCurrent knowledge of relevant marine acts, regulations, codes, standards and guidelines of shipping industry applicable to pilotage in Australia.\nCurrent Queensland C class Driver’s Licence\nStrong oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills\nGeneral computer skills in Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).\nDesirable\nPrevious Piloting experience and Pilot’s Licence issued within the Commonwealth.\nExperience as an exempt Master with substantial ship handling experience on different types of vessels\nCertificate from a recognised simulator or a recognised man model centre endorsing pilotage
