{"id":3001556,"url":"https://alion.io/job/resbank-1918-application-security-engineer-bstd","title":"(1918) Application Security Engineer - BSTD","company":{"id":1781283,"name":"South African Reserve Bank","domain":"resbank.co.za","url":"https://alion.io/company/resbank","size_band":"501-1000","is_staffing_agency":false,"employer_type":"direct","is_intermediary":false,"listed_via":null,"ats_vendor":"Oracle","truth_index":null},"role":"Security","role_family":"Security","seniority":"middle","employment_type":null,"work_mode":"on_site","remote_scope":null,"remote_scope_basis":null,"remote_working_hours":null,"hiring_geo_confidence":"structured","locations":["Pretoria, South Africa"],"countries":["ZA"],"hiring_countries":[],"hiring_countries_total":0,"salary":null,"salary_estimate":{"min_usd":18500,"max_usd":45000,"period":"year","method":"global_role_cell_scaled_by_country","sample_n":854},"experience_years_min":3,"visa_sponsorship":false,"relocation_package":false,"has_equity":false,"technologies":[{"name":"CI/CD","optional":false}],"status":"live","first_seen_at":"2026-10-21T08:34:13Z","employer_posted_date":"2026-10-21","last_verified_at":"2026-10-29T22:06:08Z","board_verified":true,"closed_at":null,"days_open":8,"trust":{"level":"ok","repost_count":null,"flags":[],"days_open":8},"description":"Brief description\nThe main purpose of this position is to validate and verify cybersecurity application and software components and identify potential threats and vulnerabilities through testing to support the secure development, implementation and maintenance of business applications within the Business Solutions and Technology Department (BSTD) of the South African Reserve Bank Group (SARB Group).\nDetailed description\nThe successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:\nConsult stakeholders to understand the expected outputs of applications and software, identify appropriate security controls and achieve an optimal balance between security, functionality and performance.\n\nIncorporate the identified security controls into technical specifications and documentation to ensure secure deployment, as agreed with stakeholders.\n\nDevelop test plans and design appropriate security software tests to adequately secure applications and software.\n\nPerform security testing in accordance with agreed and approved test plans, using SARB Group-approved tools, to ensure that security controls meet requirements and align with security standards at each stage of the project development life cycle.\n\nCollate, document, analyse and report security testing results to identify secure-coding vulnerabilities and application security configuration errors.\n\nUse vulnerability assessment reports to validate the secure deployment of applications and software within the SARB Group environment, including networks and operating systems.\n\nParticipate in application security audits by providing relevant information and responding to and addressing security-related audit findings, thereby reducing the SARB’s threat landscape and improving its application security posture.\n\nKeep abreast of cybersecurity technologies, developments and practices.\n\n Job requirements\nTo be considered for this position, candidates must have:\na National Diploma (NQF 6) in information technology or an equivalent qualificationin a related field;\n\nthree to five years’ relevant experience in a cybersecurity operations environment, with a focus on designing and implementing manual and automated security software tests and maintaining the relevant technologies; and\n\nrelevant intermediate cybersecurity certifications, such as CompTIA CySA+, Certified Application Security Engineer (CASE) and technology-specific certifications will be advantageous.\n\nAdditional requirements include:\nknowledge and skills in:\nindustry, organisational and business awareness;\n\nquality assurance;\n\ncontinuous improvement;\n\ncontinuous learning and professional development;\n\nDevSecOps practices and tools for integrating security into CI/CD pipelines;\n\nthe design, development and implementation of security software tests;\n\nautomated testing tools;\n\nsystems and networking;\n\napplication and software testing processes;\n\noperations; and\n\nthe secure software development life cycle (SSDLC).\n\nIn line with the SARB’s commitment to diversifying its workforce, preference will be given to suitable candidates from designated groups.
