Imagine a role where your skills and attributes will contribute to improving millions of lives.\nBecause at Resmed, you will.\nLet’s talk about the Team\nJoin our Moulding Research & Technology (R&T) Engineering Team and help shape the next generation of manufacturing capabilities for Resmed.\nThe R&T team explores and matures new manufacturing technologies before they enter formal NPI delivery. We work across automation, robotics, mechatronics, tooling, moulding, sensing, inspection, and digital technologies to solve emerging manufacturing challenges.\nThe team works closely with Product Development, NPI Engineering, Manufacturing, Tooling Design, Quality, and external technology partners.\nOur goal is not only to solve today's manufacturing problems. Our goal is to build scalable technology platforms and capabilities that can enable future products and manufacturing systems.\nLet’s talk about the Role\nAs a Senior Engineer, Automation/Mechatronics Engineering - Research & Technology, you will lead the exploration, development, and maturation of emerging automation and mechatronics technologies for future manufacturing applications.\nYou will translate manufacturing challenges and future product needs into technology concepts, prototypes, and demonstrators. You will use rapid experimentation to understand what works, what does not work, and what needs to be developed further.\nYou will work across mechanical systems, robotics, controls, sensing, machine vision, and software to develop integrated mechatronic solutions.\nThe role will focus on taking technologies from early concept and feasibility through proof of concept and production-relevant demonstration, before transferring mature solutions to NPI teams for product-specific industrialisation and validation.\nYou will have the freedom to experiment, challenge existing approaches, and work with internal and external technology partners while keeping patient safety, manufacturability, scalability, and long-term business value in mind.\nLet’s Talk About Responsibilities\nTechnology Exploration & Proof of Concept\nIdentify and evaluate emerging automation, robotics, sensing, machine vision, and mechatronics technologies that could improve future manufacturing capabilities.\nTranslate manufacturing challenges and future product requirements into clear technical hypotheses and experimental plans.\nDesign and build proof-of-concept systems to rapidly test new ideas.\nUse structured experimentation to determine technical feasibility, capability, limitations, and key risks.\nMake clear recommendations on whether technologies should be advanced, redirected, partnered externally, or stopped.\nMechatronics & Automation Development\nDesign integrated mechatronic systems combining mechanical mechanisms, actuators, sensors, robotics, controls, machine vision, and software.\nDevelop automation architectures for new and emerging manufacturing processes.\nDesign and prototype fixtures, material-handling concepts, motion systems, and experimental equipment.\nDevelop PLC, robotic, motion-control, machine-vision, and data-acquisition solutions where required.\nDevelop modular and reusable automation concepts that can be adapted across products and manufacturing platforms.\nTechnology Maturation\nProgress promising technologies from laboratory concepts toward production-relevant demonstrations.\nEvaluate technology maturity against manufacturing requirements such as quality, cycle time, reliability, safety, maintainability, scalability, and cost.\nIdentify technical gaps that need to be closed before transfer into NPI.\nBuild sufficient technical evidence so that NPI teams can confidently adopt and industrialise the technology.\nDesign for Scale & Manufacturing Readiness\nDevelop new technologies with future scale-up and manufacturing deployment in mind.\nCollaborate with NPI engineers to ensure new technology concepts can transition from R&T into production-intent development.\nCapture key design principles, operating requirements, lessons learned, and technical risks that will support downstream industrialisation.\nWhere possible, develop common automation platforms and design standards that can be reused across multiple programs.\nCross-Functional Technology Development\nWork closely with Product Development to understand emerging product concepts and identify future manufacturing capability needs.\nPartner with moulding, tooling, automation, manufacturing systems, quality, and NPI teams to develop integrated manufacturing solutions.\nTranslate manufacturing challenges into clear technical requirements for external development partners.\nShare technical learning across teams and sites to avoid repeated development work.\nTechnical Leadership & Capability Building\nAct as a technical mentor for engineers working on automation and mechatronics development.\nChallenge existing manufacturing approaches and introduce new technologies where they can create meaningful value.\nDevelop reusable engineering knowledge, design guidelines, reference architectures, and technology platforms.\nCommunicate complex technical concepts clearly to engineering leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.\nLet’s talk about you\nYou are naturally curious and enjoy solving problems that do not yet have obvious answers. You are comfortable starting with incomplete information and turning broad manufacturing challenges into structured engineering experiments.\nYou combine strong hands-on engineering skills with systems thinking. You enjoy building prototypes, testing ideas, analysing failures, and improving designs.\nYou understand that successful R&T is not about demonstrating an interesting prototype once. It is about developing enough understanding and technical evidence so that a technology can eventually become a reliable and scalable manufacturing capability.\nYou work well across disciplines and actively share knowledge so that technical learning becomes an organisational capability rather than remaining within an individual project.\nLet’s talk about Qualifications and Experience\nRequired\nBachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Robotics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.\nSignificant hands-on experience developing automation, robotics, mechatronic, or advanced manufacturing systems.\nStrong understanding of integrated mechanical, electrical, control, and sensing systems.\nExperience developing prototypes and proof-of-concept equipment.\nExperience with PLC, robotic, motion-control, or industrial automation systems.\nDemonstrated ability to work across mechanical, electrical, software, controls, and manufacturing disciplines.\nAbility to translate loosely defined technical problems into clear engineering requirements and experiments.\nStrong communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts, findings, risks, and recommendations to different audiences.\nComfortable working in an environment where technologies may fail, change direction, or require multiple development iterations.\nPreferred Qualifications\nStrong mechanical design capability using SolidWorks, Creo, Siemens NX, or equivalent tools.\nExperience designing mechanisms, jigs, fixtures, end-of-arm tooling, and automated material-handling systems.\nExperience with Fanuc or other industrial/collaborative robotics platforms.\nExperience with Allen Bradley/Rockwell PLC and HMI systems.\nExperience with machine vision, industrial cameras, sensors, force control, or advanced inspection technologies.\nExperience with rapid prototyping, additive manufacturing, simulation, or digital engineering tools.\nExperience integrating data acquisition, sensing, or analytics into experimental manufacturing systems.\nExposure to artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced vision, digital twins, or intelligent automation would be advantageous.\nExperience developing new manufacturing technologies from concept through production-relevant demonstration.\nWhat Success Looks Like\nSuccess in this role is measured by more than equipment delivery.\nYou will be successful when you:\nTurn important manufacturing challenges into clear technology development programs.\nRapidly determine which technologies are viable and which should not be pursued.\nBuild convincing proof-of-concept and production-relevant demonstrators.\nIncrease technology maturity and reduce technical uncertainty before NPI adoption.\nDevelop reusable automation and mechatronics platforms rather than one-off solutions.\nTransfer technology to NPI with clear technical evidence, requirements, risks, and design knowledge.\nBuild new manufacturing capabilities that improve Resmed's ability to develop and scale future products.\nWorking with us is not just an opportunity to help millions of people live healthier, higher-quality lives. It is an opportunity to shape an amazing future for our patients, the planet, the company, and your own career.\nSo join us and together, let’s shape the future.\nJoining us is more than saying “yes” to making the world a healthier place.
