This is an opportunity to build a new product from the ground up, establish its technical foundations, and shape how we manage and present complex product information at scale.The platform will power our product catalogue and quoting capabilities, bringing together product information from manufacturers and other sources into a structured, reliable, and scalable system.\nYour primary focus will be product information management (PIM), data modeling, large-scale data ingestion, and building a maintainable, monitorable, and scalable application. You'll design systems that can ingest, normalize, validate, and manage millions of product records while supporting accurate product information and flexible quoting functionality.You'll work primarily with PHP and Symfony on the backend, using caching, queues, and asynchronous processing to support reliable performance at scale. You'll also build web crawling and scraping capabilities, develop REST APIs, and contribute to a modern JavaScript frontend using React.This is a hands-on engineering role. You'll own both architecture and implementation, working alongside our existing developers and collaborating with colleagues responsible for reviewing product data. We're looking for someone who combines strong technical judgment with attention to detail, curiosity, and a sense of ownership.\nResponsibilities\nArchitecture and Product Development\nOwn the technical architecture of the product catalogue and quoting platform, designing for scalability, maintainability, reliability, and observability.\n\nDesign robust data models for products, variants, specifications, pricing, configurable options, accessories, and discounts.\n\nBuild and maintain the PHP/Symfony backend, including REST APIs and integrations.\n\nEstablish development standards, automated testing practices, and architectural patterns that support long-term maintainability.\n\nProduct Information Management and Data Ingestion\nDesign and maintain data ingestion pipelines that collect and process large volumes of manufacturer product information.\n\nBuild reliable web crawling and scraping systems to gather product specifications, descriptions, images, and other relevant data.\n\nDevelop data normalization, validation, deduplication, and enrichment processes to create consistent, accurate product records from multiple sources.\n\nDesign mechanisms to identify incomplete or inconsistent records, handle ingestion failures, and support efficient product data review and correction.\n\nBuild scalable processes for initial imports, incremental updates, and ongoing product data maintenance.\n\nBackend Engineering and Reliability\nImplement asynchronous processing and background jobs using Symfony Messenger and message queues.\n\nDevelop caching strategies using Redis or similar technologies while maintaining data consistency.\n\nDesign robust failure handling, retries, and recovery processes for ingestion pipelines and background workers.\n\nImplement monitoring, logging, metrics, error tracking, and alerting to maintain production reliability.\n\nIdentify performance bottlenecks and continuously improve application performance and resource utilization.\n\nQuoting and Frontend Development\nBuild quoting functionality that supports projects, line items, pricing, markup, and customer-ready quotes.\n\nDevelop and maintain REST APIs that support the catalogue and quoting experience.\n\nBuild customer-facing and internal interfaces using modern JavaScript, with React preferred.\n\nCollaborate with internal stakeholders to translate product data requirements and quoting workflows into practical technical solutions.\n\nCollaboration and Continuous Improvement\nWork closely with existing developers and colleagues responsible for reviewing product information.\n\nTake ownership of technical challenges from initial design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing optimization.\n\nIdentify opportunities to simplify workflows, improve data quality, and reduce operational complexity.\n\nEvaluate and use AI coding tools and other technologies where they can improve development efficiency and product quality.\n\nQualifications and Requirements\nRequired\nAt least 5 years of professional software development experience.\n\nExpert-level hands-on experience with PHP 8 and Symfony.\n\nProven experience building or maintaining product information management (PIM) systems, product catalogue platforms, or comparable product data platforms.\n\nExperience designing and operating large-scale data ingestion pipelines, ideally involving 1 million or more records.\n\nStrong data modeling skills and deep experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and ORM frameworks such as Doctrine.\n\nHands-on experience with asynchronous processing, message queues, and background jobs.\n\nStrong knowledge of caching systems such as Redis.\n\nExperience building reliable web crawling and scraping systems.\n\nSolid experience designing and consuming REST APIs.\n\nPractical experience with production monitoring, logging, error tracking, and troubleshooting.\n\nStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges.\n\nNice to Have\nExperience building quoting, CPQ (configure, price, quote), or product configuration software.\n\nExperience working with complex ecommerce product catalogues, manufacturer data, or product feeds.\n\nExperience with React and modern JavaScript development.\n\nExperience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.\n\nFamiliarity with AI-assisted product data enrichment or classification.\n\nKnowledge of commercial kitchen equipment,
