You’ll gain hands-on experience working across the boundary between software and hardware-from communication protocols and hardware interfaces to Linux systems and low-level debugging.\nThis is a highly technical internship for students who want to understand what happens below the application layer and build software where performance, reliability, and correctness matter.\nYou’ll contribute to real engineering projects, learn from senior engineers, and develop experience with the systems programming and hardware integration challenges behind critical software.\nWhat You'll Do\nWrite and contribute to Rust code targeting Linux userspace\n\nSupport the integration of industrial hardware and learn to work with register maps and hardware communication protocols\n\nContribute to Hardware Abstraction Layers (HALs) that allow Revel software to interface with physical hardware\n\nDevelop software that communicates with sensors, actuators, controllers, and other hardware\n\nLearn and use hardware debugging tools such as logic analyzers and oscilloscopes\n\nWrite tests and contribute to improving the reliability and quality of low-level software\n\nParticipate in code reviews and collaborate with experienced software and embedded engineers\n\nDebug issues across software, operating systems, communication interfaces, and hardware\n\nBuild an understanding of how reliability and correctness become critical requirements in real-world systems\n\nWhat We're Looking For\nCurrently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field\n\nRising Junior or Senior graduating in 2027 or 2028\n\nStrong programming fundamentals and experience with C, C++, Rust, or another systems-oriented language\n\nFoundational understanding of operating systems, computer architecture, or Linux\n\nInterest in understanding how software interacts with hardware at a low level\n\nStrong analytical and debugging skills\n\nHands-on experience through coursework, personal projects, research, or previous internships\n\nCurious, self-directed, and excited to learn from experienced engineers\n\nComfortable working in a fast-paced, technically challenging environment\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills\n\nUS citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee (ITAR requirement)\n\nBonus Points\nCoursework or personal projects involving embedded systems, microcontrollers, or firmware\n\nExperience with Rust, particularly through personal or academic projects\n\nFamiliarity with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, or CAN\n\nExperience working with Linux internals, operating systems, or low-level networking\n\nExperience with hardware debugging tools such as logic analyzers or oscilloscopes\n\nExperience working with sensors, actuators, development boards, or other physical hardware\n\nInterest in real-time, safety-critical, or high-reliability systems\n\nExperience building projects that bridge software and hardware\n\nExperience with robotics, aerospace, automotive, industrial automation, or other hardware-focused applications\n\nWhy Revel\nWork on software that controls real hardware - build systems that interact directly with the physical world\n\nGo deep technically - work at the intersection of systems programming, hardware, and software\n\nLearn from exceptional engineers - work closely with engineers who have built critical software systems\n\nBuild real things - contribute to production software rather than purely academic or experimental projects\n\nTake on meaningful problems - work on technology used by customers across aerospace, automotive, energy, and advanced manufacturing\n\nGrow quickly - work in a small, ambitious team where your contributions are visible and your learning curve is steep\n\nInternship Details\nProgram: Summer 2027 Internship\n\nDuration: June - August 2027\n\nType: Summer, paid internship\n\nLocation: Los Angeles or San Francisco\n\nWork environment: On-site\n\nTravel: Occasional travel to customer sites may be required\n\nJoin us to redefine what’s possible in software for hardware.\nITAR Requirements\nTo conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
