Apply today!\nAbout the role\nUnder the direction of the Shift Supervisor, the Control Room Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently monitoring and controlling plant systems and equipment from the control room. The Control Room Operator continuously monitors operating conditions, responds to alarms and abnormal conditions, and takes appropriate corrective action in accordance with established operating procedures.\nThe Control Room Operator plays a critical role in ensuring the facility operates safely, reliably, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental requirements and Reworld operating standards. This position may also provide direction and leadership to other operations employees during routine and emergency operating conditions.\nKey Responsibilities\nMonitor and control plant systems and equipment, including steam generation, condensate, feedwater, turbine/generator, circulating water, service water, fuel handling, ash handling, electrical systems, fire protection, air pollution control systems, and associated computer control systems.\nContinuously monitor meters, gauges, recorders, alarms, annunciators, and control system displays to identify changing operating conditions and take appropriate action.\nAdjust and monitor temperatures, pressures, flows, levels, and other operating parameters to maintain safe and efficient plant operation.\nRespond promptly to alarms, equipment malfunctions, abnormal operating conditions, and emergency situations in accordance with established operating procedures.\nExecute plant startup, shutdown, and other operating procedures while maintaining safe and reliable operation.\nMonitor and operate equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, fans, dampers, grates, augers, conveyors, dust collection systems, and related components.\nMonitor the operation and performance of air pollution control equipment and take appropriate action to maintain environmental compliance.\nConduct routine equipment surveillance, operational checks, testing, and safety inspections.\nMaintain accurate operating logs, records, calculations, and other required documentation.\nReview operating data and trends to identify abnormal conditions, potential equipment failures, or opportunities to improve plant performance, and communicate concerns to the Shift Supervisor.\nMonitor fire protection systems, emergency backup equipment, electrical systems, instrumentation, and other critical plant systems.\nIdentify and correct abnormal operating conditions within established procedures and escalate conditions requiring additional support.\nCommunicate effectively with the Shift Supervisor, Maintenance, Environmental, Engineering, and other site personnel regarding equipment status and operating conditions.\nProvide guidance, training, and direction to other Operations employees on plant systems, equipment, operating procedures, and safe work practices.\nServe as a knowledgeable resource regarding the facility's operating systems, steam cycle, equipment, and control processes.\nPerform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.\nPosition Requirements\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required.\nMinimum of three years of experience operating high-pressure boilers and electric generating equipment, or an equivalent combination of formal technical training and relevant operating experience.\nStrong understanding of power plant operations, equipment, and operating principles.\nAbility to read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, electrical schematics, equipment specifications, and vendor technical manuals.\nStrong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.\nAbility to analyze operating conditions, identify problems, and make sound decisions in both routine and emergency situations.\nStrong verbal and written communication skills.\nBasic computer skills and the ability to learn and effectively use computerized control systems.\nDemonstrated leadership skills and the ability to provide direction and support to other employees.\nAbility to remain alert and focused while monitoring plant operations for extended periods of time.\nWork Environment & Physical Requirements\nAbility to work a rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.\nMay be required to work extended hours during planned outages, unplanned maintenance events, or other operational needs.\nAbility to work throughout the facility in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat and cold, dust, noise, wet conditions, and confined or elevated work areas.\nAbility to climb ladders and stairs and work at heights while using required fall protection.\nAbility to wear respiratory protection and other required personal protective equipment.\nAbility to perform physical activities including standing, walking, bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, sweeping, shoveling, and lifting as required.\nMust be able to safely perform the essential functions The final salary offered for this role will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to: experience, education, geographic location, skills and competencies, travel requirements and/or union contracts (if applicable).
