Apply today!\nAbout the role\nWe are seeking a Shift Engineer with a Massachusetts Second Class Engineer License to oversee the safe, reliable, and environmentally compliant operation of a high-performance steam plant within a Thermomechanical Treatment and power generation facility. This position plays a critical role in monitoring boilers, turbines, auxiliary systems, and plant operations while supporting safe and efficient energy production. Reworld is committed to employee development, operational excellence, safety leadership, and continuous improvement.\nThe Shift Engineer oversees the safe, efficient operation of the steam plant during assigned shifts, supporting plant reliability, environmental compliance, equipment performance, and workforce development. Candidates with experience operating high-pressure boilers, steam turbines, electric generating equipment, cogeneration facilities, utility plants, Thermomechanical Treatment facilities, industrial steam plants, marine propulsion systems, or similar industrial processes are encouraged to apply. This position offers hands-on operational leadership experience and exposure to critical plant systems. We will offer a sign-on bonus of up to $20,000 for qualified candidates.\nKey Responsibilities\nMonitor the fuel processing system and operate boilers, turbines, and other steam plant equipment throughout the shift.\nEnsure compliance with safety standards, environmental permits, and operational procedures.\nApprove equipment removal for maintenance, issue safety permits, and oversee clearance processes.\nLead and train shift personnel to maintain a skilled, flexible, and safety-conscious workforce.\nTroubleshoot operational issues and coordinate maintenance activities.\nRespond to emergencies and direct necessary actions to maintain safe operations.\nMaintain active state and site-required licenses and certifications.\nParticipate in projects to improve plant performance and efficiency.\nQualifications\nMust hold a Massachusetts Second Class Engineer License.\nMinimum 3 years of supervisory or engineering experience in heavy industrial, power generation, or resource recovery settings.\nHands-on experience with high-pressure boilers, steam turbines, and electric generating equipment.\nFamiliarity with instrumentation and control systems in steam plants.\nAbility to work rotating shifts and meet physical demands, including climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and working at heights or in confined spaces.\nAbility to wear full-face respirators and work in varied weather conditions.\nHigh school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field preferred.\nAll Reworld positions require a candidate's ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the role while upholding Reworld's Values, including (but not limited to) contributing to a safe and inclusive workplace, delivering results through trust, and building breakthrough capabilities.\nPlease note that Level, Title and/or Salary may be adjusted based on the applicant's experience or skills.\nPay Transparency\nReworld is committed to paying its staff equitably, and we strive to provide competitive compensation and benefits packages. The final salary offered for this role will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to: experience, education, geographic location, skills and competencies, travel requirements and/or union contracts (if applicable).
