The veterinary technician will aid in all aspects of the animal care program serving as a liaison between different stakeholder groups including researchers and animal care staff. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.\nHiring Range: $23.41 - $29.23\n*Non-Exempt (hourly) positions under FLSA are eligible for overtime.\nMinimum Requirements:\nHigh School Diploma or equivalent\n\nTwo or more (2+) years of experience related to animal handling, methods of blood collection, substance administration, anesthesiology, and euthanasia\n\nSkills:\nAbility to work independently when needed\n\nExperience conducting diagnostic tests\n\nAbility to work with many various laboratory animal species\n\nBasic computer skills within Microsoft Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)\n\nPreferences:\nAssociate’s degree in related field.\n\nLicensed veterinary technician (LVT)\n\nExperience working with various animals in a research setting.\n\nAALAS certification at ALAT or above.\n\nPrior experience providing training in numerous veterinary procedures.\n\nUnderstanding of the scientific process including aspects of protocol and study design.\n\nUnderstanding compliance pertaining to animal care and use in a research environment.\n\nEssential Functions:\nWorks independently to provide veterinary care for laboratory animals under the direction of staff veterinarians.\n\nProvides direct assistance to members of the animal program in the diagnosis and treatment of laboratory animals while facilitating laboratory research and supporting animal use protocols.\n\nDevelops and provides training to research and animal care staff in proper animal handling, restraint, and various veterinary manipulations and techniques through formal and informal training events.\n\nProvides complex and technical support to veterinary and research staff.\n\nActively supports laboratory animal health monitoring programs and maintains animal records in compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and requirements.\n\nMaintains a harmonious, safe, and efficient work environment.\n\nServe as a liaison between the veterinary, research, and animal care personnel.\n\nWork with veterinary and animal care staff to provide consistent care for all animals on weekends, holidays, and during emergencies.\n\nAbility to learn how to use new research equipment within ARF and become a primary trainer for this new equipment.\n\nPerforms all other duties as assigned.\n\nRice University HR | Benefits:https://knowledgecafe.rice.edu/benefits\nRice Mission and Values:Mission and Values | Rice University\nRice University is committed to ensuring Equal Employment Opportunity and welcoming the fullness of diversity into our candidate pools.
