We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to architect, design, develop, and optimize advanced hardware systems that form the backbone of our next-generation quantum computing platforms. In this role, you will lead the mechanical design and integration of hardware that enables RF signal delivery and silicon device packaging within dilution refrigerators. These systems form the critical interface between room-temperature control electronics and ultra-low-temperature environments where superconducting qubits operate. You will collaborate closely with quantum device physicists, electrical/RF engineers, systems integration teams, and external fabrication partners to deliver innovative, high-performance mechanical systems for customer-deployed quantum computers.\nKey Responsibilities: System Design & Development\nSenior the mechanical design of complex hardware subsystems including cryostat internal architecture, custom components for signal chain and metal enclosures\n\nDevelop and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)\n\nDrive end-to-end design of mechanical interfaces from room temperature down to the millikelvin regime\n\nDesign thermal anchoring and shielding systems optimized for mechanical stability and quantum coherence\n\nPerform thermal, vibrational, and structural simulations using FEA tools to ensure performance and robustness\n\nBuild and validate mechanical/cryogenic prototypes in lab\n\nCollaborate with quantum physics teams to ensure system-level functionality in live quantum experiments\n\nWork closely with hardware, cryo, RF, and systems teams to deliver integrated, scalable quantum hardware platforms\n\nDevelop specifications for outsourced components and manage supplier relationships for critical assemblies such as vacuum flanges, cryo fixtures, and RF housings\n\nAuthor assembly documentation, and maintain design traceability in PLM system\n\nRequired Qualifications\nM.S. degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field\n7+ years of industry experience in mechanical design and systems engineering\n\nProficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)\n\nStrong background in tolerance analysis and GD&T principles\n\nExperience in thermal and structural modeling and simulation\n\nFamiliarity with documentation control, revision management, and PLM tools\n\nExcellent cross-disciplinary communication and project collaboration skills\n\nDemonstrated ability to develop and document assembly processes\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nFamiliarity with thermal-mechanical effects in cryogenic materials and multi-physics system design\n\nExperience with RF packaging and electronic device integration in cryogenic or vacuum environments\n\nQuality assurance experience including inspection methodologies and non-conformance resolution\n\nHands-on machining or fabrication experience to support rapid prototyping and design iteration","description_format":"text","description_chars":2967,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":7,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"master","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"},{"name":"Canada","iso":"CA","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Science & Engineering","Quantum Science & Computing","Quantum Computing Hardware"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-23T18:58:51Z"}],"liveness":{"score":86,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.86,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":42,"reasons":["conf:2","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-09-24T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":190000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/rigetti-computing-senior-mechanical-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/rigetti-computing-senior-mechanical-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-09-24T09:18:22Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers"}}
