Riot Games is an American video game developer founded in 2006 that built League of Legends, the free-to-play team battle game that became one of the most played titles in the world and the foundation of modern esports. It has since released the tactical shooter Valorant, the card game Legends of Runeterra, the mobile title Wild Rift and the animated series Arcane, all set in the same fictional universe, and it operates the professional leagues around its games directly rather than licensing them out. Headquartered in Los Angeles and wholly owned by Tencent, it is unusual for running a small number of titles as very long-lived services.

As a Revenue Accounting Manager,  you’ll be in charge of certain areas of the game revenue accounting at Riot Games.  This involves critical accounting player life estimates, big data transaction reconciliation and automation for micropayments, devising structure to address controls and risks including for accounts receivable, and thoughtfully developing the technical accounting for emerging revenue issues.  To be successful, you’ll need to be flexible working at both a review level and a hands-on detailed level.  You will drive projects forward and collaborate with other teams including Finance, Game teams, Payments, Legal, Data, and accounting teams in our global offices.

This position reports to the Accounting Director and will play a key leadership role in the overall Accounting organization around change management, improving processes and controls, scaling accounting, company infrastructure and operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Deeply understand Riot’s statistical player life estimate calculation and work with a data analyst to maintain it.  This includes doing analysis to explain changes, working on audit deliverables, and understanding how this estimate would apply to new products.
  • Reconcile large sales datasets with engineering team across the order to cash process.  This data would include information from international payment processors with unique fees, FX, and taxes.
  • Further develop processes and automation with the engineering team to increase efficiency and scope of the large data reconciliation noted above.  This includes project management, understanding system data flows, and cross team collaboration.
  • Research and formalize technical accounting including Principal vs Agent, Point in Time vs Over Time, Costs to obtain a contract, and Consideration payable to a customer.
  • Review draft contracts to ensure smooth technical accounting.
  • Build out approaches and systems to address key risks such as receivables collectability and chargebacks monitoring.
  • Project manage and oversee certain day to day, period end close, and audit related activities
  • Implement improved approaches to internal revenue data and systems.  This may include implementing a more sophisticated revenue system and the related processes
  • Mentor team staff
  • Manage relationships with external auditors to ensure timely completion of annual audits and reviews

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. Big 4 experience and a CPA designation is required.
  • 6+ years of progressive experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role in a fast paced environment.  Multinational experience is required.
  • Project manage key areas with multiple groups.  Organize and prioritize effectively and meet deadlines while maintaining quality.
  • Analytical, interested in deeply understanding areas, consider why an approach is better than 1-2 alternatives.
  • Some statistical experience, ideally in relation to critical accounting estimates.
  • Strong understanding of revenue recognition in a technology/entertainment company
  • Comfortable working with big data processes and engineer / analysts for high volume revenue transactions.
  • Strong leader in training and developing high-performing individuals with a clear commitment to the development and engagement of the team.  Effectively listen and demonstrate an effective, collaborative approach.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Operational experience including global high volume credit card transactions and B2B transactions.
  • Experience with gaming industry player life statistical estimates or similar.
  • Solid experience with one or more financial ERP systems, preferably Oracle
